Pediatric pancreatic tumors, though rare, pose significant diagnostic and management challenges. The recent, 22-year nationwide survey on pediatric pancreatic tumors in Japan by Makita offers valuable insights into this uncommon entity, revealing striking geographical variations and questioning current treatment paradigms. This editorial commentary analyzes the study's key findings, including the predominance of solid pseudopapillary neoplasms and their younger age of onset, which contrast sharply with Western data.

The physiology of transient intracranial pressure (ICP) elevations (B waves), remains incompletely understood and appears to involve multiple mechanisms, including obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Transient ICP elevations are associated with OSA and cyclic alternating pattern (CAP) metrics, suggesting a complex interplay between sleep fragmentation and ICP dynamics. Additionally, CAP metrics could complement standard OSA assessments, providing deeper insights into transient ICP fluctuations, particularly in conditions like normal-pressure hydrocephalus and idiopathic intracranial hypertension.

Multiple myeloma (MM), a hematologic malignancy characterized by the clonal expansion of plasma cells within the bone marrow, is associated with severe health complications, including osteolytic bone lesions that significantly increase the risk of fractures, leading to higher morbidity and mortality rates. One intriguing protein in this context is the RNA polymerase binding factor Che-1/AATF (Che-1), which has emerged as a potential player in the survival and proliferation of myeloma cells. Hippo pathway has been shown to be an important mediator of oncogenesis in solid tumors, especially for its role in shaping a tumor microenvironment favorable to cancer maintenance and spread.

Post-translational modifications play crucial roles in regulating protein function. Protein methylation, occurring at lysine, arginine, and histidine, has gained attention, particularly for histone methylation. However, the mechanism and significance of protein methylation at histidine remains poorly understood.

The origin and maintenance of sex differences in reproductive behavior (often labeled sex roles) have remained controversial topics, and recent meta-analyses and theoretical models have helped to elucidate the processes that generate diverse sex roles. We are glad to see that our study (Mokos et al., 2021) generated a healthy debate, and in agreement with recent commentaries (Janicke, 2024; Lehtonen & Parker, 2024) we call for a more comprehensive approach to understanding sex role evolution.
