We propose here a new approach for compression and frequency up-conversion of short optical pulses in the regime of extreme nonlinear optics in optically dense absorbing media, providing an alternative route to attosecond-scale pulses at high frequencies. This method is based on dynamics of self-induced transparency (SIT) pulses of nearly single cycle duration, leading to single-cycle-scale Rabi oscillations in the medium. The sub-cycle components of an incident pulse behave as separate SIT-pulses, approaching each other and self-compressing, resulting in the threefold compression in time and frequency up-conversion by the same factor. As we show, the scheme can be cascaded, staying at the subsequent stage with nearly the same compression and up-conversion ratio. In this way, as our simulations show, after only few micrometers of propagation, a 700 nm wavelength single cycle pulse can be compressed to a pulse of 200 attoseconds duration located in XUV frequency range.

Mid-infrared (MIR) microcombs exhibit remarkable advantages for trace molecule detection, facilitating fast and precise spectral analysis. However, due to limitations in tunability and size of available MIR pump sources, it is difficult to achieve compact MIR mode-locked microcombs using traditional methods. Here, we propose the turnkey generation of MIR soliton and near-infrared second-harmonic microcombs in a single microresonator.

Sub-20-fs UV-XUV beamline for ultrafast molecular spectroscopy.

We present an ultraviolet (UV) - extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) pump-probe beamline with applications in ultrafast time-resolved photoelectron spectroscopy. The UV pump pulses, tuneable between 255 and 285 nm and with µJ-level energy, are generated by frequency up-conversion between ultrashort visible/infrared pulses and visible narrow-band pulses. Few-femtosecond XUV probe pulses are produced by a high-order harmonic generation source equipped with a state-of-the-art time-delay compensated monochromator.

Terahertz spectroscopy systems, which integrate terahertz sources and detectors, have important applications in many fields such as materials science and security checking. Based on highly sensitive frequency up-conversion detection, large dynamic range spectral measurements in a terahertz region are reported. Our system realized the detection sensitivity at a 10 aJ level with a 2-(3-(4-hydroxystyryl)-5,5-dime-thylcyclohex-2-enylidene) malononitrile (OH1) crystal and a dynamic range up to seven orders.

Measurable residual disease (MRD) monitoring in acute myeloid leukemia (AML) with an FLT3 internal tandem duplication (FLT3-ITDpos) has been hampered by the broad heterogeneity of ITD mutations. Using our recently developed FLT3-ITD paired-end next-generation sequencing (NGS)-based MRD assay (limit of detection 10-4 to 10-5), we evaluated the prognostic impact of MRD at different time points in 157 patients with FLT3-ITDpos AML who were enrolled in the German-Austrian Acute Myeloid Leukemia Study Group 16-10 trial and who were treated with a combination of intensive chemotherapy and midostaurin, followed by midostaurin maintenance. MRD negativity (MRDneg) after 2 cycles of chemotherapy (Cy2), which was observed in 111 of 142 (78%) patients, was predictive of superior 4-year rates of cumulative incidence of relapse (CIR) (4y-CIR; 26% vs 46%; P = .

Rotational Doppler shift of a circularly polarized wave impinging normally on a rotating anisotropic surface, causes scattered waves with frequency shift equals twice the surface rotation frequency. We show that virtual rotational Doppler shift can be realized in transmission line platforms through a time-varying junction. In a system consisting of a pair of decoupled but identical transmission lines, voltage waves with a 90-degree phase difference between the two lines mimic a circularly polarized wave.
