A tetraindeno-fused bis(anthraoxa)quinodimethane with nine consecutively fused six-membered rings in a row was synthesized. Its structure was confirmed by X-ray crystallographic analysis and NMR measurement. Compared with an unfused analogue , the indeno fusion onto the zigzag edges not only enhanced the photostability but also dramatically tuned the electronic properties. Due to the existence of two rubicene units, can also be readily reduced to form a radical anion and dianion.
