There are few quantitative studies evaluating the impact of unfolding case studies on understanding and transfer of learning in nursing education. The purpose of this study was to examine the effects of an unfolding case study on undergraduate nursing students' learning outcomes. Teaching with unfolding case studies was compared to slide lecture using a pretest, posttest, and transfer test. The learning outcomes of students in the two groups were found to be not significantly different. Both instructional methods reveal similar learning outcomes.

Introduction: Unfolded Von Willebrand Factor (VWF) is increased in thrombotic pathologies such as myocardial infarction. Unfolded VWF mediates the binding of platelets without the need for collagen. β-glycoprotein I (β-GPI) is a natural inhibitor of the platelet-VWF interaction.

Eosinophilic granulomatosis with polyangiitis (EGPA) is a rare systemic necrotizing vasculitis marked by eosinophilia and extravascular granulomas, predominantly affecting the respiratory tract. This report details a unique EGPA case in a 6-year-old girl with extensive cardiac involvement, featuring an atypical intracardiac mass suggestive of endomyocardial fibrosis and a concomitant thrombus. The clinical course unfolded in three phases: an initial prodrome with asthma; subsequent peripheral hypereosinophilia; and ultimately systemic vasculitis.

Recent advancements in protein structure determination are revolutionizing our understanding of proteins. Still, a significant gap remains in the availability of comprehensive datasets that focus on the dynamics of proteins, which are crucial for understanding protein function, folding, and interactions. To address this critical gap, we introduce mdCATH, a dataset generated through an extensive set of all-atom molecular dynamics simulations of a diverse and representative collection of protein domains.

Ephemeral Diabetes After COVID-19 Vaccination.

JCEM Case Rep

January 2025

Department of Internal Medicine, Division of Endocrinology and Diabetology, Gävle Hospital, University of Gävle, Gävle SE-80324, Sweden.

We report a case of new-onset, nonautoimmune, nonketotic, and noninsulinopenic type 2-like diabetes in a previously normoglycemic middle-aged man debuting after vaccination against COVID-19. This was not a mild or short-lived glucose intolerance, but severe and long-standing hyperglycemia with a high glycated hemoglobin level. However, the course of the diabetes was highly atypical and surprising in that it spontaneously disappeared after a few months and did not recur despite the patient being off all antidiabetic drugs for several months and without any changes in body weight or lifestyle.

During their final transformation, insects emerge from the pupal case and deploy their wings within minutes. The wings deploy from a compact origami structure, to form a planar and rigid blade that allows the insect to fly. Deployment is powered by a rapid increase in internal pressure, and by the subsequent flow of hemolymph into the deployable wing structure.
