Kinetics of Austenite Phase Transformations in Newly-Developed 0.17C-2Mn-1Si-0.2Mo Forging Steel with Ti and V Microadditions.

This work presents the results of phase transformation kinetics during continuous cooling in newly developed high strength low-alloy steel (HSLA). Initial theoretical calculations for the determination of heat treatment parameters were conducted. To determine the structural constituents formed due to the austenite decomposition the dilatometry approach was used. The material was cooled down from the austenitization temperature of 1000 °C with cooling rates between 0.1 °C/s to 60 °C/s. Then, light and scanning electron microscopy investigations were carried out. The microstructure after cooling at rates between 0.1 °C/s up to 1 °C/s is mainly ferritic with some fraction of granular bainite. Increasing the cooling rate led to formation of a higher fraction of bainitic ferrite. At 60 °C/s the microstructure was mainly bainite with some fraction of ferrite. To determine the presence of retained austenite, color etching using Klemm solution was used. The results show that the increase of cooling rate decreases the amount of retained austenite in the microstructure of the steel. Hardness measurements were made to determine the changes in the mechanical properties as a function of the cooling rate.

The samples prepared at 1200 °C, followed by slow cooling to room temperature, crystallize in a polar 2 structure, exhibiting partial -site cation ordering, with Na- and La-rich -site layers alternately stacked along the axis.

Starch spherulite is a unique form of resistant starch characterized by a spherical structure with crystalline lamellae that are radially oriented and may find applications in delivery of nutrients and bioactives to the lower gastrointestinal tract. Formation of starch spherulites generally requires heating to a high temperature followed by quenching and long crystallization time. The objectives of this study were to gain a deeper understanding of the factors influencing spherulite formation from pea starch (PS) and high-amylose maize starch (HAMS) and investigate if spherulites could be formed by a slow cooling rate and determine the crystalline structure and morphology of the spherulites formed.

Heatable super hydrophobic polyurethane (PU) sponges (S-GNS/CNT/PVA@PU) containing three-dimensional (3D) carbon nano-networks (CNNs) coatings made from two-dimensional (2D) expanded graphite nano-sheets (GNS) bridged by one-dimensional (1D) carbon nano-tubes (CNT) were constructed using polyvinyl alcohol (PVA) as binder, in which light and/or electric energy could be rapidly converted into heat to reduce the viscosity of spilled heavy oils, resulting in greatly increased oil. Their heavy oil recovery rate could reach 792 kg/(m·h) under combined light and Joule heating of 1 sun and 5 V.
