The requirements of high-strength, wear-resistance and lightweight of brake drums have been continually increasing in recent years and any specific aluminum alloy or particle-reinforced aluminum matrix composites may not satisfy all the demands. Combining dissimilar materials to play their respective advantages is a solution to this problem. In this study, a compound casting method was used to combine solid SiC/A357 composite and a liquid 7050 aluminum alloy to prepare an aluminum matrix composite with a layered structure. The ProCAST numerical simulation software was used to predict the heat transfer in compound casting process and guide the preheating temperature of the wear-resistant ring in the experiment. An Optical Microscope (OM) and Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) were used to observe microstructures around the solid-liquid bonding interface, the element distribution and phase component of which were analyzed by Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy (EDS) and mechanical properties were evaluated by microhardness and shear tests. The results showed that the interface of the layered aluminum matrix composite prepared by this method achieved complete metallurgical bonding and a transition zone formed on the solid surface. After T6 heat treatment, the average shear strength of the interface increased from 19.8 MPa to 33.8 MPa.

The objective of this study is to develop chromium-reinforced metal-metal composites utilizing an AA5083 aluminum alloy matrix through powder metallurgy while also examining their properties. Samples were produced by incorporating varying quantities of chromium (5%, 10%, and 15% by weight) into the AA5083 matrix. In order to ensure a uniform distribution of chromium particles, the powders were blended in a ball mill and subsequently hot-pressed at 500 °C under 500 MPa for a period of two hours in an argon atmosphere.

Purpose: To perform vertical bone augmentation on rat parietal bone by coating the inner surface of dense polytetrafluoroethylene (d-PTFE) domes with hydroxyapatite (HA) using Erbium Yttrium Aluminum Garnet (Er:YAG) pulsed laser deposition in a rat model.
Methods: The d-PTFE plate surface, α-tricalcium phosphate (α-TCP) coating, and HA coating were measured using scanning electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction to confirm the replacement of α-TCP with HA via high-pressure steam sterilization. The dome was glued to the center of the rat parietal bone and closed with periosteal and epithelial sutures.

Background: Tavaborole (TAV), a benzoxaborole derivative, is an FDA-approved antifungal agent for treating onychomycosis, a common and persistent fungal infection of the toenails.
Objective: This study aimed to develop a robust stability-indicating HPTLC method to determine TAV in nanostructured lipid carriers (NLC) using a comprehensive approach that includes risk assessment, and Analytical Quality by Design.
Methods: The critical method parameters influencing the HPTLC results were screened using a Plackett-Burman screening design followed by its optimization using a central composite optimization design.

The difficulty of quantum chemically computing vibrational, rotational, and rovibrational reference data via quartic force fields (QFFs) for molecules containing aluminum appears to be alleviated herein using a hybrid approach based upon CCSD(T)-F12b/cc-pCVTZ further corrected for conventional CCSD(T) scalar relativity within the harmonic terms and simple CCSD(T)-F12b/cc-pVTZ for the cubic and quartic terms: the F12-TcCR+TZ QFF. Aluminum containing molecules are theorized to participate in significant chemical processes in both the Earth's upper atmosphere as well as within circumstellar and interstellar media. However, experimental data for the identification of these molecules are limited, showcasing the potential for quantum chemistry to contribute significant amounts of spectral reference data.

A method has been developed for manufacturing biological microchips on an aluminum substrate with hydrophilic cells from brush copolymers with the formation of a matrix of cells using photolithography. The surface of aluminum substrates was previously coated with a thin, durable, moderately hydrophobic layer of cross-linked polymer to prevent contact with the aluminum surface of the components used in the analysis of nucleic acids. Aluminum biochip substrates have high thermal conductivity and low heat capacity, which is important for the development of methods for multiplex PCR analysis on a chip.
