Background: This study seeks to elucidate the association between depression and the risk of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) by Mendelian randomization (MR) analysis, motivated by prior observational studies indicating a potential link between these conditions.
Methods: Data from individuals of European (EUR) and East Asian (EAS) ancestries diagnosed with major depressive disorder (MDD) were selected for analysis. The primary method utilized was inverse variance weighted (IVW) method, supplemented by a series of sensitivity analyses and false discovery rate (FDR) corrections.

Background: Observational studies have shown that ocular manifestations of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are common extraintinal manifestations, among which iridocyclitis, scleritis and episcleritis are the most common. However, whether there is a causal relationship between the two is unclear. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the causality of IBD on ocular manifestations using the mendelian randomization (MR) analysis.

Organic agriculture is expanding worldwide, driven by expectations of improving food quality and soil health. However, while organic certification by regulatory bodies such as the United States Department of Agriculture and the European Union confirms compliance with organic standards that prohibit synthetic chemical inputs, there is limited oversight to verify that organic practices, such as the use of authentic organic fertilizer sources, are consistently applied at the field level. This study investigated the elemental content of carbon (C) and nitrogen (N) and their stable isotopes (δ13C and δ15N) in seven different crops grown under organic or conventional practices to assess their applicability as a screening tool to verify the authenticity of organic labeled produce.

Importance: Maternal inflammation during pregnancy has been associated with an increased risk of neurodevelopmental disorders (NDDs), such as attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) and autism, and cognitive deficits in early childhood. However, little is known about the contributions of a wider range of inflammatory proteins to this risk.
Objective: To determine whether maternal inflammatory proteins during pregnancy are associated with the risk of NDDs and executive functions (EF) in middle childhood and to identify protein patterns associated with NDDs and EF.

Importance: Epidemiological studies suggest that lifestyle factors are associated with risk of dementia. However, few studies have examined the association of diet and waist to hip ratio (WHR) with hippocampus connectivity and cognitive health.
Objective: To ascertain how longitudinal changes in diet quality and WHR during midlife are associated with hippocampal connectivity and cognitive function in later life.
