Books relating to dental care of children go back many years. This includes care by mothers and the rise of good clinical treatments and prevention by dentists. Most early books were written by a single author. As dentistry developed it became necessary to bring in writers with specialist knowledge, for example on dental materials. In 1952 Walter McBride wrote that children were sometimes described as being "". Many practitioners saw them as small adults and offered little treatment. Often they had no idea how to comfort children (Fig. 1). Some dental offices displayed notices that children under the age of 12 years would not be seen. Advice on handling was needed. Books were needed to encourage more dentists to treat children and to raise standards amongst practitioners already treating them. This paper documents and discusses early books that have appeared since 1853. Although of course much care advanced with increased knowledge and skills, it is fascinating to see how much we might still recognize today from the earliest publications.

Introduction: Osteogenesis imperfecta is a rare inherited connective tissue disorder that results in excessive bone fragility due to defects in collagen production. The majority of osteogenesis imperfecta cases are inherited in an autosomal dominant pattern, and 17 genetic causes have been identified. Diagnosis is usually based on clinical presentation and low bone mineral density scores, while treatment involves a multidisciplinary approach using medical therapies such as bisphosphonates, vitamin C, and pamidronate.

Background: Cystic fibrosis is a multisystem disease characterised by the production of thick secretions causing recurrent pulmonary infection, often with unusual bacteria. Intravenous (IV) antibiotics are commonly used in the treatment of acute deteriorations in symptoms (pulmonary exacerbations); however, recently the assumption that exacerbations are due to increases in bacterial burden has been questioned. This is an update of a previously published review.

Aims: We evaluated the safety, efficacy, and patient adherence to oral ANS-6637, a selective, reversible inhibitor of aldehyde dehydrogenase 2 (ALDH2), for treating alcohol use disorder (AUD).
Methods: A 3-arm, double-blind, randomized, proof-of-concept human laboratory study embedded in a 5-week multisite clinical trial tested 200 mg and 600 mg daily doses of ANS-6637 compared to placebo in treatment-seeking adults with AUD. After 1 week of medication, participants completed an alcohol cue reactivity session.
