HP1 Promotes the Centromeric Localization of ATRX and Protects Cohesion by Interfering Wapl Activity in Mitosis.

Front Biosci (Landmark Ed)

January 2025

The Key Laboratory of Model Animals and Stem Cell Biology in Hunan Province, Hunan Normal University Health Science Center, 410013 Changsha, Hunan, China.

Background: α thalassemia/mental retardation syndrome X-linked (ATRX) serves as a part of the sucrose nonfermenting 2 (SNF2) chromatin-remodeling complex. In interphase, ATRX localizes to pericentromeric heterochromatin, contributing to DNA double-strand break repair, DNA replication, and telomere maintenance. During mitosis, most ATRX proteins are removed from chromosomal arms, leaving a pool near the centromere region in mammalian cells, which is critical for accurate chromosome congression and sister chromatid cohesion protection.

A new Donor-Acceptor type pyrazinacene derivative (1) featuring strong ICT was synthesized by linking electron-donating triphenylamine (TPA) and electron-accepting CN groups via a pyrazinacene core. The compound exhibits a dramatic color change from greenish blue to red-violet upon selective recognition of naphthalene (3) to form a 1:1 co-crystal (1•3). This color change is induced by intermolecular CT between pyrazinacene and naphthalene's aromatic moieties, driven by π-hole···π interactions.

Molecular surveillance of FMD epidemiology is a fundamental tool for advancing our understanding of virus biology, monitoring virus evolution, and guiding vaccine design. The accessibility of genetic data will facilitate a more comprehensive delineation of FMDV phylogeny on a global scale. In this study, we investigated the FMDV strains circulating in Russia during the 2013-2014 period in geographically distant regions utilizing whole genome sequencing followed by maximum-likelihood phylogenetic reconstruction of whole genome and VP1 gene sequences.

The blood-brain barrier (BBB) is selectively permeable, but it also poses significant challenges for treating CNS diseases. Low-intensity focused ultrasound (LiFUS), paired with microbubbles is a promising, non-invasive technique for transiently opening the BBB, allowing enhanced drug delivery to the central nervous system (CNS). However, the downstream physiological effects following BBB opening, particularly secondary responses, are not well understood.

Alkaloid Profile, Anticholinesterase and Antioxidant Activities, and Sexual Propagation in (Amaryllidaceae).

Plants (Basel)

January 2025

Instituto de Biotecnología, Facultad de Ingeniería, Universidad Nacional de San Juan, Av. Libertador General San Martín 1109 (O), San Juan CP5400, Argentina.

, a recently described endemic species from southern Peru, belongs to the Amaryllidaceae family and is known for its diversity of alkaloids. Amaryllidoideae have been studied for their diverse biological activities, particularly for their properties in treating neurodegenerative diseases. This work examines the alkaloidal profile using GC-MS and UPLC-MS/MS of alkaloid-enriched extracts obtained from the leaves and bulbs of and their inhibitory activity against acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) enzymes.
