Much evidence suggests that the choroid plexus (CP) plays an important role in the pathophysiology of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), but its imaging profile in neuropsychiatric SLE (NPSLE) remains unexplored. To evaluate CP volume in NPSLE patients using MRI. This retrospective study evaluated patients with SLE who underwent MRI of the brain, including three-dimensional T1-weighted imaging.

Time-resolved compositional and dynamics analysis of biofilm maturation and dispersal via solid-state NMR spectroscopy.

NPJ Biofilms Microbiomes

January 2025

Institute of Drug Discovery Technology, Ningbo University, Ningbo, 315211, Zhejiang, China.

Dispersal plays a crucial role in the development and ecology of biofilms. While extensive studies focused on elucidating the molecular mechanisms governing this process, few have characterized the associated temporal changes in composition and structure. Here, we employed solid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) techniques to achieve time-resolved characterization of Bacillus subtilis biofilms over a 5-day period.

The Society of Thoracic Surgeons General Thoracic Surgery Database (STS GTSD) remains the largest and most comprehensive audited thoracic surgical database in the world. As the STS GTSD grows to nearly 1 million cases, the pulmonary resection for cancer and esophagectomy short-term risk models have been refined to provide participants with benchmarked performance reports to facilitate quality improvement efforts. New for 2025 will be the development of long-term risk models and the online release of both short- and long-term risk calculators.

Critical-sized bone defects in osteosarcoma treatment demand multifunctional scaffolds that must effectively integrate two key functions, promoting osteogenesis and delivering targeted chemoprevention. This study introduces a dual-component system featuring pH-responsive hydrogels and hydroxyapatite-based fiber-reinforced biomimetic scaffolds designed for controlled and localized curcumin delivery, while addressing its solubility and stability issues. The hydrogel system comprises a double network of polyacrylic acid, sodium alginate, carboxymethyl cellulose, and potato starch, specifically modified to encapsulate curcumin.

Assessing the impact of non-pharmaceutical interventions against COVID-19 on 64 notifiable infectious diseases in Australia: A Bayesian Structural Time Series model.

J Infect Public Health

January 2025

Ecosystem Change and Population Health Research Group, School of Public Health and Social Work, Queensland University of Technology, Brisbane, Australia. Electronic address:

Background: Several studies have examined the effect of non-pharmaceutical interventions (NPIs) on COVID-19 and other infectious diseases in Australia and globally. However, to our knowledge none have sufficiently explored their impact on other infectious diseases with robust time series model. In this study, we aimed to use Bayesian Structural Time Series model (BSTS) to systematically assess the impact of NPIs on 64 National Notifiable Infectious Diseases (NNIDs) by conducting a comprehensive and comparative analysis across eight disease categories within each Australian state and territory, as well as nationally.
