Changes of the number of red cell membrane elevations revealed by freeze-etch electron microscopy are pH-dependent in vitro and in vivo. In healthy volunteers a decrease of the number of red cell surfaces with elevations was observed under moderate acidemic and alkalemic conditions. These changes were different in patients with Huntington's chorea and affective psychotic disorders. Elevations of the red cell membrane with the same diameter can be demonstrated in ultrathin sections, if sodium azide is added during the fixation procedure.

Objective: For patients with contraindications to hormone therapy, the absence of effective treatments for ovarian dysfunction post chemotherapy represents a critical issue requiring resolution. Local administration of mitochondria may enhance ovarian function in premature ovarian insufficiency (POI) by ameliorating diminished mitochondrial activity. Nevertheless, there is a paucity of literature on the efficacy of mitochondrial transplantation through intravenous injection, a less invasive and more convenient method than local injection, for the improvement of ovarian function in POI following chemotherapy.

Background: Acute myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock (AMICS) is frequently preceded by out-of-hospital cardiac arrest (OHCA), with risk of anoxic brain injury. Neuron-specific enolase (NSE) is central to neuroprognostication; however, concomitant hemolysis can increase NSE independent of neuronal injury due to the presence of NSE in erythrocytes. This consideration is critical in AMICS patients treated with a microaxial flow pump (Impella, Abiomed), where hemolysis is frequent.
