Coats disease is a rare abnormality characterized with retinal telangiectasia and aneurysms with retinal exudation, most often seen in young males and usually affecting only one eye. A 12-year-old boy came in with a three-month history of vision loss and pain in his right eye, alongside progressively worsening blurred vision over the last year. His visual acuity was reduced to only light perception in the right eye, while his left eye maintained 5/5 vision.

Aims/hypothesis: Within the small intestine, neutrophils play an integral role in preventing bacterial infection. Upon interaction with bacteria or bacteria-derived antigens, neutrophils initiate a multi-staged response of which the terminal stage is NETosis, formation of protease-decorated nuclear DNA into extracellular traps. NETosis has a great propensity to elicit ocular damage and has been associated with diabetic retinopathy and diabetic macular oedema (DME) progression.

So far, it has been described with various ocular disorders like retinitis pigmentosa, chronic ischemic branch retinal vein obstruction and pars planitis. A man in his 30s presented with a 1-month history of diminution of vision in the left eye.
