Renal failure or acute/chronic kidney damage may present as a clinical manifestation of rheumatic diseases. In addition treatment with DMARDs or biologic drugs may induce nephrotoxicity. In this case-based review, we present two patients with SpA under anti-TNF-α treatment admitted to our hospital because of renal failure and proteinuria. We review previously published yet isolated cases of TNF-α blocker-induced glomerular disease in patients with SpA. Renal manifestations are occasionally seen in patients with ankylosing spondylitis and psoriatic arthritis with IgA nephropathy being the most common of them. Anti-TNF-α agents although reportedly used for the treatment of glomerular nephropathy as a disease manifestation, they have been considered responsible for provoking renal damage in some cases. A diagnostic approach for patients with SpA treated with anti-TNF-α agents presenting with renal manifestations is proposed herein.

Objective: A pathogenetic role of CD8+ T lymphocytes in radiographic axial spondyloarthritis (r-axSpA) and other spondyloarthritis (SpA) is sustained by genome-wide association studies (GWAS) and by the expansion of public T cell clonotypes in the target tissues. This study investigates the migration of CD8+ T cells, along with their phenotype and functions in patients with r-axSpA and psoriatic arthritis (PsA).
Methods: Peripheral blood CD8+ and CD4+ T cells were isolated from r-axSpA (n= 128), PsA (n= 60) and rheumatoid arthritis (RA, n= 74) patients and healthy donors (HD, n= 79).

Muscle repair and regeneration are complex processes. In Duchenne muscular dystrophy (DMD), these processes are disrupted by the loss of functional dystrophin, a key part of the transmembrane dystrophin-associated glycoprotein complex that stabilizes myofibers, indirectly leading to progressive muscle wasting, subsequent loss of ambulation, respiratory and cardiac insufficiency, and premature death. As part of the DMD pathology, histone deacetylase (HDAC) activity is constitutively increased, leading to epigenetic changes and inhibition of muscle regeneration factors, chronic inflammation, fibrosis, and adipogenesis.

Background & Aims: Biliary abnormalities in autoimmune hepatitis (AIH) and interface hepatitis in primary biliary cholangitis (PBC) occur frequently, and misinterpretation may lead to therapeutic mistakes with a negative impact on patients. This study investigates the use of a deep learning (DL)-based pipeline for the diagnosis of AIH and PBC to aid differential diagnosis.
Methods: We conducted a multicenter study across six European referral centers, and built a library of digitized liver biopsy slides dating from 1997 to 2023.
