Published: March 2021

A new soft scale species (Hemiptera: Coccomorpha: Coccidae), Pulvinaria kalyaniensis Talukder Das, sp. n., is described from specimens collected on twigs of Azadirachta indica A. Juss. (Meliaceae) from Kalyani, West Bengal, India. This new species is  similar to P. aligarhensis Avasthi Shafee and P. ixorae Green, but can be distinguished by different character states of dorsal areolations, submarginal tubercles, dorsal tubular ducts, the number of prevulvar setae and the number of loculi in each multilocular pore. An updated identification key to the species of Pulvinaria Targioni Tozzetti found in India is provided.

Ultra-slow self-similar coarsening of physical fibrillar gels formed by semiflexible polymers.

Soft Matter

Biopolymers tend to form fibrils that self-assemble into open network structures. While permanently crosslinked flexible polymers are relatively well understood, structure-property relationships of open networks and pseudo-gels formed by bundles of biopolymers are still controversial. Here we employ a generic coarse-grained bead-spring chain model incorporating semiflexibility and cohesive nonbonded interactions, that forms physical instead of chemical crosslinks.

The cage concept, a central microscopic mechanism for glassy dynamics, has been utilized in concentrated colloidal suspensions to describe a number of phenomena. Here, we probe the evolution of cage formation and shear elasticity with increasing volume fraction in hard sphere suspensions, with emphasis on the short-time dynamics. To this end, we utilize linear viscoelastic (LVE) measurements, by means of conventional rotational rheometers and a home-made HF piezo-rheometer, to probe the dynamic response over a broad range of volume fractions up to the very dense glassy regime in proximity to random close packing.

Switchable Multi-Spectral Electromagnetic Defense in the Ultraviolet, Visible, Infrared, Gigahertz, and Terahertz Bands Using a Magnetically-Controllable Soft Actuator.

Traditional passive single-spectrum electromagnetic defense materials are inadequate to defend against complex multispectral electromagnetic threats. Herein, a bilayer heterofilm (BLH film)-based magnetically controllable soft actuator (MCSA), comprising a defense unit and a drive unit, is constructed. The defense unit offers multispectral electromagnetic protection, while the drive unit enables active defense via magnetic actuation.

Background: Transtrochanteric rotational osteotomy (TRO) for osteonecrosis of the femoral head (ONFH) is considered technically demanding, with varying results among institutions. This is due to the complex soft tissue exposure and determination of the osteotomy line. We report a case in which the osteotomy line was assessed using the Stryker OrthoMap three-dimensional (3D) computed tomography (CT)-based navigation system and determined as preoperatively planned.

Flexible Pressure Sensors for Optimizing Pressure Garment Therapy in Periarticular Scar Treatment: Preclinical and Clinical Applications.

Adv Wound Care (New Rochelle)

Department of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, Shanghai Ninth People's Hospital, Shanghai, People's Republic of China.

Pressure garment therapy is a common strategy for controlling hypertrophic scars; however, insufficient pressure due to reduced elasticity or joint movement limits its effectiveness around joints. The FlexiForce B201 pressure sensor offers precise pressure measurements, thereby demonstrating a promising solution. This study used a Bama pig scar model with an untreated group, a pressure garment group, and a pressure monitoring group that was treated with FlexiForce B201 sensors and pressure garments.
