The research work investigates the combustion, performance, and emission characteristics of a CI engine using neat biodiesel (B100: 100% rubber seed oil methyl ester) mixed with alumina and titanium oxide nanoparticles in the proportions of 25 ppm and 50 ppm separately. Nanoparticles (alumina and titanium dioxide) in different proportions like 25 ppm and 50 ppm were mixed with the neat biodiesel, and 2% of surfactant (Span80) was added, and the mixtures were agitated by an ultrasonicator to achieve uniform particle dispersion in the blend. The nanoparticle-blended biodiesel mixtures are designated as B100A25 (B100 + 25 ppm of alumina), B100A50 (B100 + 50 ppm of alumina), B100T25 (B100 + 25 ppm of TiO), and B100T50 (B100 + 50 ppm of TiO). Experiments were conducted in a single-cylinder DI diesel engine using neat biodiesel blended with alumina and titanium dioxide nanoparticle mixtures at different operating conditions. The test results revealed that the brake thermal efficiency (BTE) of the engine with nanoparticle-blended fuel (B100T50) increased by 5.2% and brake-specific fuel consumption (BSFC) decreased by 10.56%. The CO, HC, and smoke emissions decreased by 44%, 28%, and 44%, respectively, whereas the NO emissions increased by 21% as compared to that of neat biodiesel at full load.

In this paper, the production of pyrolyzed oil in lab scale plant and its possible use in variable speed diesel engine with nanoparticle and secondary fuel oxy-hydrogen gas is investigated. The pyrolyzed oil is produced from waste tires in lab scale plant, and after its distillation, it is blended with neat diesel in the proportion of 20:80 (TDF). The different testing fuels are prepared by mixing nanoparticle CeO (NP) at the concentrations 50 ppm and 100 ppm with blended fuel (named as TDF-NP50 and TDF-NP100).

Ecofriendly ionic liquids (ILs) were synthesized through amidation of ricinoleic acid, the main fatty acid in castor oil, followed by a quaternization reaction to solubilize ethanol in IL/diesel blends at different ratios. As a result, stable and highly renewable, low viscous microemulsion biofuels with high oxygen content were prepared. The prepared fuel samples combine the advantages of green ionic liquids and microemulsion properties.

Common B7 biodiesels consist of mixtures of mineral oil-based diesel and 7% fatty acid methyl ester (FAME). While biocontent increase can be achieved with these blends at high-quality levels during cold temperature periods, fuel filter blocking events are reported from time to time. Based on a preliminary study on fuel filters, the selection of compounds responsible for filter blocking could be narrowed down to saturated monoglycerides (SMGs).

Alternative energy sources, such as biodiesel, play a vital role in environmental protection. Waste cooking oil (WCO) biodiesel has promising applications in compression ignition engines. A major problem regarding biodiesel implementation is the deterioration and materials incompatibility of existing fuel system components with biodiesel.
