We prepared a dielectric elastomer actuator composed of hydrogenated carboxylated acrylonitrile-butadiene rubber (HXNBR)/nitrile group (CN)-modified and non-modified titanium oxide (TiO) particles with insulation properties. The CN group-containing silane coupling agent was synthesized via a thiol-ene reaction between acrylonitrile and 3-mercaptpropyltrimethoxysilane and immobilized onto the TiO particle surface. The HXNBR/CN-modified and non-modified TiO particle composite elastomer showed a high relative dielectric constant and generated stress in a low electric field. The relative dielectric constant increased proportionally with the amount of CN-modified TiO particles, showing a value of 22 at 100 Hz. As the dielectric constant increased, the volumetric resistivity decreased; however, the dielectric breakdown strength was maintained at 95 V/mm. The generated stress of the composite elastomer increased in proportion to the relative dielectric constant, showing a maximum of 1.9 MPa. The card-house structure of TiO particles in the composite elastomer is assumed to suppress the dielectric breakdown in a low electric field. Thus, we demonstrated that an elastomer containing a high dipole group on an insulating particle surface is capable of improving the power performance of soft actuators.

Polyvinylidene fluoride (PVDF) film, with high energy density and excellent mechanical properties, has drawn attention as an energy storage device. However, conduction loss in PVDF under high electric fields hinders improvement in efficiency due to electrode-limited and bulk-limited conduction. Well-aligned multilayer interfaces of two-dimensional (2D) nanocoatings can block charge injection, reducing electrode-limited conduction loss in dielectric polymers.

In this study, a simulation of the elementary chemical reactions during SiO film growth in a hot filament chemical vapor deposition (HFCVD) reactor was carried out using a 2D model. For the 2D simulation, the continuity, momentum, heat, and diffusion equations were solved numerically by the software COMSOL Multiphysics based on the finite element method. The model allowed for the simulation of the key parameters of the HFCVD reactor.

Coplanar waveguide (CPW) transmission lines are valued for their planar design, low radiation, and minimized signal loss, but controlling their characteristic impedance remains a challenge. This study employs the Taguchi method, a statistical approach, to optimize the characteristic impedance by adjusting eight control factors: track width, track thickness, gap width, dielectric height, backplane thickness, conductor material conductivity, dielectric conductivity, and operational frequency. The analysis evaluates these factors across three levels to find optimal conditions, with dielectric height and track width identified as most influential.

Thermal conductivity enhancement in polymers is vital for advanced applications. This study introduces a novel method to align hexagonal boron nitride (hBN) nanosheets within polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrices using a Halbach array to create a highly uniform magnetic field. This technique achieves significant improvements in thermal conductivity by effectively aligning hBN nanosheets.

Barium fluoride borosilicate glass samples reinforced with varying amounts of GdO (BSBLG0-BSBLG4) have been manufactured using the conventional melt quenching procedure in order to provide additional research on the type of borosilicate glass. Structural, physical, and linear optical characteristics as well as γ-ray attenuation capacity of barium fluoride borosilicate doped with GdO was investigated. X-ray diffraction pattern proving the amorphous nature of the glass samples due to the absence of a distinctive crystalline characteristic peak.
