A novel Sm-metal-organic framework (MOF) sensor with the molecular formula Sm(HDBA)·HO has been prepared based on a penta-carboxyl organic ligand (HDBA = 3,5-di(2',4'-dicarboxylphenyl)benzoic acid) and samarium nitrate under solvothermal conditions. Sm-MOF is characterized by single-crystal X-ray diffraction analysis, elemental analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, and powder X-ray diffraction analysis. Structural analysis shows that the dimer metal units are alternately connected to form a one-dimensional chain, and this chain is connected by the bridging carboxyl oxygen of the ligand HDBA to form a two-dimensional double-layer plane, which then expands into a three-dimensional microporous framework. Fluorescence detection studies show that Sm-MOF can detect Ag ions, MnO anions, and cimetidine tablets with high sensitivity and selectivity and can also be used to electrochemically detect -nitrophenol in water. High-sensitivity detection capability of the Sm-MOF can enrich the application of samarium complexes in multifunctional sensors.

Hydroquinone (HQ) and copper ions (Cu) are categorized as environmental pollutants that are severely limited in water. Designing a selective assay for discriminating HQ from its two isomers and the convenient determination of Cu is of great importance. Herein, a Tb-based metal-organic framework (Tb-MOF) and HQ are assembled innovatively into a ratiometric fluorescence nanoprobe to selectively distinguish HQ and subsequent quantitative visual detection of Cu.

The development of stable and tunable polycyclic aromatic compounds (PACs) is crucial for the advancement of organic optoelectronics. Conventional PACs, such as acenes, often suffer from poor stability due to photooxidation and oligomerization, which are linked to their frontier molecular orbital energy levels. To address these limitations, we designed and synthesized a new class of π-expanded indoloindolizines by merging indole and indolizine moieties into a single polycyclic framework.

B- and N-heterocyclic fluorophores have reveal promising efficiency in blue organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs) with small full-width-at-half-maximum (FWHM). However, their structural determinants for spectral broadening and operating stability are still needed to be investigated in further. Herein, a novel multi-N-heterocycles Diindolo[3,2,1jk:3',2',1'jk]dicarbazole[1,2-b:4,5-b] (DIDCz) is proposed to manipulate the emission color toward pure blue region by extending π-conjugation of the N-π-N bridge.

The accuracy of assigning fluorophore identity and abundance, known as spectral unmixing, in biological fluorescence microscopy images remains a significant challenge due to the substantial overlap in emission spectra among fluorophores. In traditional laser scanning confocal spectral microscopy, fluorophore information is acquired by recording emission spectra with a single combination of discrete excitation wavelengths. However, organic fluorophores possess characteristic excitation spectra in addition to their unique emission spectral signatures.

Organic-inorganic hybrid perovskites (OIHPs) have attracted enormous attention owing to their intriguing structural tunability and diverse functional properties. Reconstructive phase transitions, involving the breaking and reconstruction of chemical bonds, have rarely been found in such materials; however, these features may induce many intriguing physical properties in optics, ferroelectrics, ferromagnetics, and so forth. Here, we utilized the weak and switchable coordination bonds of HETMA-MnCl (HETMA = (2-hydroxyethyl) trimethylammonium) to construct a 1D hybrid perovskite employing a neutral framework.
