The alarming prevalence and mortality rates associated with cardiovascular diseases have emphasized the urgency for innovative detection solutions. Traditional methods, often costly, bulky, and prone to subjectivity, fall short of meeting the need for daily monitoring. Introduction: Vascular injury during acetabular screw fixation is a life-threatening complication of total hip arthroplasty. This study uses three-dimensional computed tomography to (1) measure absolute distance from the external iliac artery (EIA) to the acetabulum, (2) determine available bone stock along the EIA path, and (3) create a novel acetabular vascular risk map.
Methods: A retrospective radiographic study was conducted using three-dimensional CT.

Blood-contacting medical devices, especially extracorporeal membrane oxygenators (ECMOs), are highly susceptible to surface-induced coagulation because of their extensive surface area. This can compromise device functionality and lead to life-threatening complications. High doses of anticoagulants, combined with anti-thrombogenic surface coatings, are typically employed to mitigate this risk, but such treatment can lead to hemorrhagic complications.

Background: Exposure to hairs of caterpillars and moths are collectively termed as lepidopterism. Clinical manifestations include cutaneous presentation of localized stinging reaction with wheals or vesiculation, acute urticarial papules and plaques, ophthalmic, oropharyngeal involvement to severe life-threatening anaphylactic reactions with angioedema.
Aims: In this study we have determined the prevalence of various cutaneous, oropharyngeal and ophthalmic manifestations of lepidopterism at a tertiary health care center.

Background: Esophageal atresia is one of the most common life-threatening congenital malformations and is defined as an interruption in the continuity of the esophagus with or without fistula to the trachea or bronchi. Definitive treatment is surgical ligation of the fistula if present and esophageal end-to-end anastomosis of the two pouches, thereby reconstructing the continuity of the esophagus. During this procedure, the surgeon may choose to either ligate or preserve the azygos vein, a major draining vein for the esophagus and surrounding structures, but no definitive consensus on the matter exists.
