Olfactory perception begins when odorous substances interact with specialized receptors located on the surface of dedicated sensory neurons. The recognition of smells depends on a complex mechanism involving a combination of interactions between an odorant and a set of odorant receptors (ORs), where molecules are recognized according to a combinatorial activation code of ORs. Although these interactions have been studied for decades, the rules governing this ligand recognition remain poorly understood, and the complete combinatorial code is only known for a handful of odorants.

People use various behaviors to cope with stressful events. These behaviors are mostly adaptive, as they allow a successful release of stress without impacting other aspects of life: How nice is it to have a break with a few spoons of that favorite ice cream during a hectic working day? However, when excessive consumption of high-sugar/salt ultra-processed food becomes the gateway to find relief from stress, eating loses this adaptive function and may escalate to binge eating, lead to obesity, and other medical conditions linked to overweight. Several etiological models attempt to explain stress-induced eating and excessive overeating behaviors characterizing these clinical conditions.

Background: Age-related cataract affects both eyes in most cases. Most people undergo cataract surgery in both eyes on separate days, referred to as delayed sequential bilateral cataract surgery (DSBCS). An alternative procedure involves operating on both eyes on the same day, but as two separate procedures, known as immediate sequential bilateral cataract surgery (ISBCS).

Objective: Theory of mind (ToM) and empathy are severely impaired in the behavioural variant of frontotemporal dementia (bvFTD) and more mildly in Alzheimer's (AD) and Parkinson's diseases (PD). Such impairments are associated with behavioural disorders. Modification of visual scanning strategies of complex visual scenes is also found in these pathologies.

The global increase in subfertility diagnosis and treatments and the rise of private equity investors concentrating on high profits based on in vitro fertilisation (IVF) treatments raise profound societal and economic questions for stakeholders and patients. The question remains as to whose benefits will ultimately be greater when promoting high margins treatment options resulting from cross-border mergers and acquisitions of IVF clinics. This paper covers wide-ranging issues from the erroneously constructed UK National Institute for Health and Care Excellence's (NICE) guidelines on treatment choices, the cost-effectiveness of treatments, the promotion of IVF, and add-ons where evidence remains minimal, the commercial size of the fertility industry.
