A Novel Trapezoid Concept of Fibula Cutting Guide for Mandible Angle Reconstruction.

Published: July 2021

Virtual surgical planning (VSP) has revolutionized the planning process in the reconstruction of the mandible with a free fibula flap. The traditional planning and design use a triangular osteotomy guide with a closing wedge movement at the angle. With virtual surgical planning, the authors found an additional lateral mandibular tilt angle and tried to incorporate it in our design of osteotomy guide. The authors have proposed a novel design in a trapezoid shape to accommodate the lateral tilt angle in our osteotomy design. Incorporating the two angles in one angle design improves the aesthesis of the reconstructive procedure and saves operative time.

Purpose: Congenital pseudarthrosis of the tibia (CPT) is a rare condition typically manifesting within the first decade of life. The primary objectives of surgical intervention for CPT include achieving long-term bony union of the tibia, preventing or minimizing limb length discrepancies (LLD), avoiding mechanical axis deviations of the tibia and adjacent joints, and preventing refracture. This study aims to conduct a systematic review of current treatment methods for CPT to determine the most effective non-surgical and surgical management strategies for pediatric patients with this condition.

The complex and variable anatomy of complex double outlet right ventricle makes it imperative to understand the spatial anatomic structures to determine whether it is feasible to repair the anomaly in a biventricular or univentricular fashion. Biventricular repair should be aimed for but is not always feasible. Choosing the correct surgical technique is of great importance in surgical planning of biventricular repair.

Article Synopsis
  • Vulval cancers are rare, constituting only 0.25% of global cancer cases, and the COVID-19 pandemic worsened the situation by complicating proper investigations and treatment follow-ups.
  • During the pandemic, 20 non-metastatic carcinoma vulva patients underwent individualized surgeries, with follow-ups conducted every two months, adapting procedures to COVID-related challenges.
  • Results showed 85% disease-free survival at 18 months, comparable to pre-pandemic outcomes, suggesting that cancer surgery and care can be effectively managed even during significant health crises.

We sought to evaluate the intracardiac morphology and associated cardiovascular anomalies in patients with double inlet right ventricle (DIRV) on multidetector CT angiography. A retrospective search of our departmental database was conducted from January 2014 to January 2023 to identify patients with a diagnosis of DIRV on CT angiography. The intracardiac anatomy and associated cardiovascular abnormalities were systematically evaluated.
