Electrosynthesis and microflow synthesis have become essential tools in their own rights in modern organic synthesis. In this personal account, we summarize our works on the integrated use of these techniques, i. e., electrosynthesis in a flow microreactor. Our group has developed an electrochemical microflow system composed of a pair of electrodes that face each other to form a micrometer-scale gap for the flow path, through which solution passes in laminar flow. By the aid of laminar flow, unprecedented chemo- and electrochemical selectivity has been observed, which is not achievable with conventional batch-type electrochemical cells. In addition, we showcase various unique electrochemical systems and reactions achieved with the flow microreactor, including self-supported electrolysis, efficient paired electrolysis, in situ generation of active species and its flash use, the spaciotemporal control of electropolymerization, and combinatorial screening of the reaction conditions.

Microfluidic chips are powerful tools for investigating numerous variables including chemical and physical parameters on protein aggregation. This study investigated the aggregation of bovine serum albumin (BSA) in two different systems: a vial-based static system and a microfluidic chip-based dynamic system in which BSA aggregation was induced successfully. BSA aggregation induced in a microfluidic chip on a timescale of seconds enabled a dynamic investigation of the forces driving the aggregation process.

Objective: Imaging techniques have demonstrated changes in the choroid and retina in acute central serous chorioretinopathy (CSCR), but the effects on the optic nerve head (ONH) remain unclear. This study investigates ONH structural changes in acute CSCR using enhanced deep imaging optic coherence tomography (EDI-OCT).
Methods: A prospective cohort study included 51 acute CSCR patients and 51 healthy controls aged 18-65 years.

Hypothesis: The depth of research into the mechanism of droplet impacting structured surfaces dictates the efficacy of their applications. The impact stress generated when a droplet impacts a surface is a pivotal factor influencing the efficiency of surface applications, ultimately determining the extent of surface wear. Despite the systematic examination of impact force, there remains a scarcity of research on impact stress and its mitigation strategies.

The galvanic corrosion and electrical insulation between TC4 Ti-alloy and 304 stainless steel coupled in pipe joints were investigated using the finite element method. The results obtained from polarization were applied as boundary conditions. The simulation incorporated secondary current distribution with chemical species transport and laminar flow.

Microfluidic-chip based hydrodynamic filtration is one of the passive sorting techniques that can separate cell or particle suspensions into subpopulations of different sizes. As the branch channels and side channels play an important role in maintaining particle focusing, their rational design is necessary for highly efficient sorting. A model framework involving multiple side and multiple branch channels has been developed by extending the analytical analysis of three-dimensional laminar flow in channel networks, which was previously validated by comparison with numerical simulations.
