Background: The red macroalga is an introduced species in the Mexican Pacific. To date, there are no published studies on its sessile epibionts, including the hydrozoans and bryozoans, which are the dominant epibionts on macrophytes and of significant biological and economic interest.
New Information: This study provides insight into the faunal diversity of hydroids growing on .

Vorticella convallaria are microscopic sessile suspension feeders that live attached to substrates in aquatic environments. They feed using a self-generated current and help maintain the health of aquatic ecosystems and wastewater treatment facilities by consuming bacteria and detritus. Their environmental impact is mediated by their feeding rate.

Rustic aquaculture systems represent a sustainable production alternative in the world, providing appropriate conditions for the establishment of epibiotic ciliates on crayfish. However, the impact of epibiotic ciliates on the aquaculture production has been insufficiently studied hitherto. The objective of this work was to identify the epibiotic ciliates on the surface of the crayfish Procambarus (Austrocambarus) sp.

Obligate commensalism in the marine environment and its evolutionary role are still poorly understood. Although sea turtles may serve as ideal substrates for epibionts, within amphipods, only the genus evolved in obligate commensalism with turtles. Here, we report a new host record for on the hawksbill turtle and describe a larger distribution of the genus in the Atlantic Ocean on green and loggerhead turtles.

High infestations of epibiont ciliates on vertebrates or invertebrates are normally related to aquaculture tanks or similar environments, and the importance of this relationship in natural habitats is often disregarded. Here, we describe the first record of high infestation of ciliates on Aegla serrana in South America and conduct a brief morphological and phylogenetic characterization of these ciliates. Our findings confirm that cases of high infestation of ciliates on metazoans can indeed occur in natural environments.
