A categorical course curriculum for radiology residencies. | LitMetric

A categorical course curriculum for radiology residencies.

Invest Radiol

Department of Radiology, Brooke Army Medical Center, Fort Sam Houston, San Antonio, TX 78234-6200.

Published: April 1988

A categorical course curriculum was introduced at Brooke Army Medical Center to focus the content of daily conferences and lectures according to radiology subspecialties. Our goal was to improve the traditional uncoordinated conferences and apprenticeship approach to resident learning. After one-year's experience, resident performance has improved, and residents and staff greatly prefer this style of teaching. The format has been adopted.

A multiple regression model for peak skin dose using principal component analysis in interventional radiology.

Radiol Phys Technol

March 2025

Department of Neurosurgery, Division of Clinical Neuroscience, Faculty of Medicine, University of Miyazaki, 5200 Kihara Kiyotake-Cho, Miyazaki, 889-1692, Japan.

This study addresses the growing concerns of increased radiation doses to patients resulting from the increased complexity of interventional radiology procedures. Despite the importance of dose management, few facilities use dosimetry systems to measure and control patient radiation doses. To aid in patient exposure control, this research aimed to predict the peak skin dose (PSD) using dose parameters from digital imaging and communication in medicine-radiation dose structured reports.

Background: Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) does not sufficiently reflect the severity of lateral epicondylitis. Although some authors have reported meaningful findings on conventional MRI, it is not widely accepted that MRI is useful for evaluating lateral epicondylitis. The aim of this study is to evaluate the relationship between the lateral epicondylitis severity score (LESS) using contrast-enhanced T1-weighted MRI and patients' perceptive pain and clinical courses.

Transdiagnostic Clinical Staging in Youth Mental Health: A primer for clinical practice.

Braz J Psychiatry

March 2025

Departamento de Psicologia do Desenvolvimento e da Personalidade, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, Brazil. Programa de Pós-Graduação em Psicologia, Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul, Porto Alegre, Brazil.

Clinical staging models are tools used in healthcare that have the potential to enhance diagnostic precision, improve treatment decisions, articulate more personalized care pathways, and optimize service models. In youth mental health, clinical staging has been increasingly applied to conditions where progression from non-specific symptoms to full-blown syndromes, such as schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and depression, is possible. However, novel transdiagnostic staging models have also been proposed, recognizing the limitations of current classification systems and the substantial overlap of symptoms, particularly early in the illness course.

Background: Standard setting plays a critical role in determining student outcomes by defining the level of biomedical knowledge required to be considered competent. This is especially important for accurately classifying medical students as ready (or not) to progress through the pre-clinical curriculum. In multiple-choice medical knowledge exams, the Yes-No Angoff method may be used for setting passing scores.

Cardiogenic shock is not a singular disease but rather a complex syndrome - characterized by systemic hypoperfusion, elevated intracardiac pressures, and insufficient cardiac output due to various possible underlying causes, leading to an acute, life-threatening, and critical condition.Significant advancements have been made in recent years in understanding the epidemiology, clinical course, phenotyping, hemodynamics, and the standardized classification of disease severity. However, progress in therapeutic interventions aimed at improving prognosis has been comparatively limited, with only a few therapies demonstrating significant evidence in randomized controlled trials.
