Charge recombination kinetics of bacterial photosynthetic protein Reaction Center displays an exquisite sensitivity to the actual occupancy of ubiquinone-10 in its Q-binding site. Here, we have exploited such phenomenon for assessing the growth and the aggregation/fusion of phosphocholine vesicles embedding RC in their membrane, when treated with sodium oleate.

Persistent Photoinduced Antibacterial Activity of MoS Nanosheets Immobilized in Porous Polymer Beads.

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) photogenerated by two-dimensional (2D) nanomaterials provide a means of delivering persistent antibacterial activity in fluid media. Semiconducting molybdenum disulfide (MoS) nanosheets are an attractive option for exploiting such activity by using visible light. However, the tendency of MoS nanosheets in suspension to restack or otherwise aggregate remains a critical obstacle, as it results in the loss of the desired photoactivity.

The upgrade of the European Synchrotron Radiation Facility (ESRF) in Grenoble, France to an Extremely Brilliant Source (EBS) is expected to enable time-resolved synchrotron serial crystallography (SSX) experiments with sub-millisecond time resolution. ID29 is a new beamline dedicated to SSX experiments at ESRF-EBS. Here, we report experiments emerging from the initial phase of user operation at ID29.

Thiophene-based nanoparticles (TNPs) are promising therapeutic and imaging agents. Here, using an innovative phage-templated synthesis, a strategy able to bypass the current limitations of TNPs in nanomedicine applications is proposed. The phage capsid is decorated with oligothiophene derivatives, transforming the virus in a 1D-thiophene nanoparticle (1D-TNP).

Article Synopsis
  • - Nitrous acid (HONO) plays a key role in forming hydroxyl radicals and affecting urban air quality, but how it forms during the day is still unclear.
  • - This study explores how formic acid (HCOOH) helps transform nitrogen oxides (NOx) into HONO when exposed to sunlight on minerals like hematite (FeO), showing that HCOOH significantly enhances HONO production while reducing nitrate buildup.
  • - The research indicates that HCOOH can activate certain chemical bonds in the presence of sunlight, facilitating the conversion of NO to HONO and highlighting important reactions that may impact air quality and public health.

Article Synopsis
  • - The study explores the untapped potential of heterojunctions in photoelectrochemical (PEC) biosensors, particularly focusing on the tunable optical properties and enhanced electron transfer pathways by introducing different photoactive materials.
  • - A novel polarity-switchable dual-mode sensor was developed for detecting fat mass and obesity-associated (FTO) proteins using a specific dual type-II heterojunction system, which converts to a Z-scheme heterojunction upon interaction with CuO.
  • - The PEC method demonstrated high sensitivity and selectivity for FTO protein detection across a wide range (0.0005-500 μg/L) and also allowed for colorimetric detection observable by the naked eye due to the peroxidase-like
