Long-term safety and efficacy of eltrombopag in adults with persitent/chronic primary immune thrombocytopenia (ITP) evaluated in EXTEND study, showed a high response rate (80%) but, in the clinical safety study, it was observed that 6% of the patients presented venous and arterial thrombotic events. In addition, in the course of the disease, autoimmune hemolytic anemia (Evans syndrome, ES) may occur and could increase the risk of thrombosis. We report an interesting case of splenic rupture due to massive intrasplenic arterial thrombosis in the course of ES in a patient with chronic ITP treated with eltrombopag. The purpose of this case report is to highlight the potential increase in thrombotic risk that may involve the use of eltrombopag in hemolysis situations in patients with ITP.

Atraumatic splenic rupture (ASR) is a rare but fatal complication of malignant lymphoma. However, only one case of intravascular large B-cell lymphoma (IVLBCL)-related ASR (IVLBCL-ASR) has previously been reported, and the mechanism of IVLBCL-ASR is unknown. We present the case of a 78-year-old man who died unexpectedly and was diagnosed with IVLBCL-ASR pathologically by autopsy.

Background: Spontaneous splenic rupture (SSR) is a rare, often life-threatening, acute abdominal injury that requires immediate diagnosis and early treatment. SSR is mainly treated surgically or conservatively. A few cases of interventional embolization for SSRs have been reported.

Pseudoaneurysm (PSA) or false aneurysm is a vascular lesion resulting from a focal and incomplete rupture of the arterial wall (intimate and/or elastic lamina), that allows blood to escape into the arterial wall; this small contained break causes a contained collection of blood and the creation of a "new" less resistant vessel wall, consisting of adventitia and perivascular tissues. Intrasplenic pseudoaneurysms are rare and more frequently recognize traumatic origin, sometimes are also unexpected lesions due to non-recent trauma. In contrast, non-traumatic intrasplenic pseudoaneurysms are rare complications usually due to splenic infarction, infiltration by malignant systemic disorders, infectious process, chronic pancreatitis, and arteritis.

Background/aims: Although liver transplantation offers a chance of cure for patients with advanced liver disease, the shortage and the lack of immediate availability of donors remains a serious problem. We studied the long-term survival of intrasplenically transplanted hepatocytes in an attempt to provide a safe and effective support to the diseased native liver.
Methodology: A preliminary study was performed to identify the optimal number of hepatocytes to be transplanted into the spleen of rats to prevent acute liver failure following massive liver resection.
