In this study, we examine the electrical characteristics of --- silicon-nanowire field-effect transistors with partially gated channels. The silicon-nanowire field-effect transistors operate with barrier height modulation through positive feedback loops of charge carriers triggered by impact ionization. Our field-effect transistors exhibit outstanding switching characteristics, with an on current of ˜10 A, an on/off current ratio of ˜10, and a point subthreshold swing of ˜23 mV/dec. Moreover, the devices inhibit ambipolar characteristics because of the use of the partially gated structure and feature the -channel operation mode.

Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-neutralizing peptides are emerging as new potential therapeutic modalities to treat sepsis and skin infections. Purinergic ligand-gated ion channels (P2X receptors) play a critical role in various biological processes, including inflammation. Recent drug development efforts have significantly focused on the modulation of P2X receptors.

Structure and catalytic mechanism of exogenous fatty acid recycling by AasS, a versatile acyl-ACP synthetase.

Fatty acids (FAs) are essential building blocks for all the domains of life, of which bacterial de novo synthesis, called type II FA synthesis (FAS II), is energetically expensive. The recycling of exogenous FAs (eFAs) partially relieves the FAS II demand and, therefore, compromises the efficacy of FAS II-directed antimicrobials. The versatile acyl-acyl carrier protein (ACP) synthetase, AasS, enables bacterial channeling of diverse eFA nutrients through holo-ACP, an activated form of ACP.

Tolerance to multiple abiotic stresses is mediated by interacting CNGC proteins that regulate Ca influx and stomatal movement in rice.

Members of the cyclic nucleotide-gated channel (CNGC) proteins are reportedly involved in a variety of biotic and abiotic responses and stomatal movement. However, it is unknown if and how a single member could regulate multiple responses. Here we characterized three closely related CNGC genes in rice, OsCNGC14, OsCNGC15 and OsCNGC16, to determine whether they function in multiple abiotic stresses.

Developmental and epileptic encephalopathies (DEEs), a class of devastating neurological disorders characterized by recurrent seizures and exacerbated by disruptions to excitatory/inhibitory balance in the brain, are commonly caused by mutations in ion channels. Disruption of, or variants in, were implicated as causal for a set of DEEs, but the underlying mechanisms were clouded because is expressed in both excitatory and inhibitory neurons, undergoes extensive alternative splicing producing multiple isoforms with distinct functions, and the overall roles of FGF13 in neurons are incompletely cataloged. To overcome these challenges, we generated a set of novel cell-type-specific conditional knockout mice.

: The high recurrence rate of bacterial vaginosis (BV) after antibiotic treatment is at least partially attributed to resistant bacteria. The CAPRISA 083 (CAP083) study investigated the influence of metronidazole (MTZ) treatment on the vaginal microbiome in 56 South African women diagnosed with BV. To explore the etiology of recurrent BV in this cohort, we retrospectively analyzed vaginal swabs collected in CAP083 before and after MTZ treatment.
