AI Article Synopsis

  • The study aimed to validate the Greek version of the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory (THI-GR) using a sample of 86 adults with chronic tinnitus.
  • Participants provided sociodemographic and medical information, underwent audiological evaluations, and completed three questionnaires, including the THI-GR.
  • Results indicated that the THI-GR has high reliability (Cronbach's alpha = 0.92) and significant correlations with other measures of tinnitus severity and anxiety, confirming its effectiveness for assessing tinnitus-related issues in clinical settings.

Article Abstract

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to validate the Greek version of the Tinnitus Handicap Inventory.

Method: Eighty-six adult patients with chronic tinnitus participated in the study. Sociodemographic data and medical history were recorded during the interview. The patients underwent audiological examination and they were asked to fill in three questionnaires: the Greek version of the THI (THI-GR), the Greek version of the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI) and the brief Tinnitus Severity Scale Questionnaire (TSSQ).

Results: The THI-GR showed good internal consistency, comparable to the original version. Cronbach's alpha was equal to 0.92, which suggests a robust reliability. All THI-GR subscales along with total score were significantly and positively correlated with the TSSQ grade and the audiogram results indicating the existence of convergent validity. Furthermore, THI-GR's subscales were significantly correlated with both State and Trait subscales, which indicates a correlation between tinnitus and stress.

Conclusions: This study highlighted the high reliability and validity of the THI-GR as a self-report measure for the evaluation of tinnitus-related annoyance and psychological distress in clinical practice.

Unlabelled: Critical states present scale-free dynamics, optimizing neuronal complexity and serving as a potential biomarker in cognitively impaired patients. We explored electroencephalogram (EEG) criticality in amnesic Mild Cognitive Impairment patients with clinical improvement in working memory, verbal memory, verbal fluency and overall executive functions after the completion of a 6-month prospective memory training. We compared "before" and "after" stationary resting-state EEG records of right-handed MCI patients (n = 17; 11 females), using the method of critical fluctuations and Haar wavelet analysis.

Feeding is an interactive process between parents and children and is related to children's healthy nutrition, growth, and feelings about the child or parent. The effectiveness of the interaction between feeding and behaviour is strongly influenced by how well this reciprocal procedure is stimulated and supported. The current study aimed to cross-culturally adapt and validate the About Your Child's Eating (AYCE) questionnaire in its Greek language version for Greek-Cypriot parents and caregivers of children aged six months to 16 years with or without feeding and swallowing problems.

The aim of this study is to record and highlight the misconceptions of Greek junior high school students regarding the concept of hydrostatic pressure. Hydrostatic pressure is included in most international curricula for this age group and in Greece, is introduced in the context of the study of fluid equilibrium in the second grade of the junior high school. After thorough international literature review and interviews with teachers who teach the physics course, to discover the students' way of thinking and their common misconceptions in the case of hydrostatic pressure concept, the researchers of this study created targeted questionnaires for students aged 12-13 years old.
