Coronary vasospasm is a well-known condition causing acute chest syndrome and can lead to myocardial infarction, ventricular arrhythmias, and even sudden cardiac death. While there are extensive case series showing the association of coronary vasospasm with drugs like cocaine, the association of marijuana with coronary vasospasm has not been reported frequently. When smoked, marijuana results in a rapid, dose-dependent tachycardia, an increase in blood pressure, and an increase in cardiac output.

Individuals seeking treatment for their cocaine use often report depressive systems and nearly half meet criteria for major depressive disorder (MDD). This descriptive study aimed to assess the effects of the antidepressant venlafaxine alone and in combination with gabapentin on depressive symptoms, subjective effects of cocaine, and cocaine self-administration in depressed and non-depressed people who use cocaine. The effects of medication condition on mood and on the effects of smoked cocaine were compared between a group of clinically depressed people who use cocaine (n = 5) and a control group of non-depressed people who use cocaine (n = 5) using laboratory-based measures.

Probe Electrospray Ionization (PESI) is an atmospheric pressure ionization method that can be directly coupled with a mass spectrometer to allow ultrafast analyses without chromatographic separation and with minimal sample preparation. Using the particular case of cocaine and its metabolites in human oral fluid, the main objective of the present study was to test the feasibility of a new hybrid system combining a PESI source and a quadrupole time-of-flight (QTOF). The best results were obtained for a sample preparation with a simple dilution of 100 µL of oral fluids in an ethanol / 10 mM ammonium formate buffer (50/50) and 10 µL deposited on a dedicated sample plate and introduced into the PESI source.

Background: Current risk-adjusted models for predicting primary graft dysfunction (PGD) following lung transplantation (LTx) do not include bedside donor critical care data. Donor management goals (DMGs) represent predefined critical care endpoints aimed at optimizing multiorgan donor management. Here we sought to identify novel predictors to better understand the relationship between donor management and PGD following LTx.

Background: The increasing diversity of psychoactive substances on the unregulated drug market poses significant health, psychological, and social risks to people who use drugs (PWUD). To address these risks, various harm reduction (HR) policies have been implemented, including drug checking services (DCS). Many analytical methods are used for DCS.
