Introduction: Trauma and orthopedics departments have traditionally used face-to-face (FTF) fracture clinics for non-operative fractures. Developed in 2011, the virtual fracture clinic (VFC) was fully implemented at an institution during the COVID-19 pandemic to reduce in-person interactions.

Aims: First, the study aims to measure the percentage of non-operative patients triaged through the VFC when this was optional and re-audit after implementing a COVID-19-related policy change mandating VFC triage.

Background: Caribbean populations face complex health issues related to diet and food security as they undergo a rapid nutrition transition, resulting in some of the world's highest number of premature deaths from noncommunicable diseases (NCDs). Despite policy efforts to promote local and regional food consumption, reliance on food imports remains high with many Caribbean countries importing more than 80% of their food from larger economies. Previous regional research revealed the importance of food sharing practices in the Caribbean, with implications for the consumption of local foods, food security, and community resilience against climate change.

Land use planning tools are essential for effective land management. However, existing research has not thoroughly explored the evolution and future potential of these tools. This study addresses this gap through comprehensive literature review and data collection, mapping the progression of land use planning tools from their inception to their future trajectories.

Introduction: Time-limited trial (TLT) is a structured approach between clinicians and seriously ill patients or their surrogates to discuss patients' values and preferences, prognosis, and shared decision-making to use specific therapies for a prespecified period of time in the face of prognostic uncertainty. Some evidence exists that this approach may lead to more patient-centered care in the intensive care unit; however, it has never been evaluated in the emergency department (ED). The study protocol aims to assess the feasibility and acceptability of TLTs initiated in the ED.

Metasurface-Based Phosphor-Converted Micro-LED Architecture for Displays─Creating Guided Modes for Enhanced Directionality.

ACS Nano

December 2024

Department of Physics of Information in Matter and Center for Nanophotonics, NWO-I Institute AMOLF, Science Park 104, NL 1098XG Amsterdam, The Netherlands.

Phosphor-converted micro-light emitting diodes (micro-LEDs) are a crucial technology for display applications but face significant challenges in light extraction because of the high refractive index of the blue pump die chip. In this study, we design and experimentally demonstrate a nanophotonic approach that overcomes this issue, achieving up to a 3-fold increase in light extraction efficiency. Our approach involves engineering the local density of optical states (LDOS) to generate quasi-guided modes within the phosphor layer by strategically inserting a thin low-index spacer in combination with a metasurface for mode extraction.
