Front Child Adolesc Psychiatry

October 2024

Centre for Rural Health, Centre for Health Science, University of Aberdeen, Inverness, United Kingdom.

Introduction: Group-based parenting programmes have specific mechanisms of change compared to individual delivery. The Mechanisms of Action in Group-based Interventions framework (MAGI); distinguishes between interpersonal and intrapersonal mechanisms of change. A preliminary firesetting offence chain for adults with intellectual and other developmental disabilities.

J Intellect Dev Disabil

June 2023

Centre for Educational Development, Appraisal and Research (CEDAR), The University of Warwick, Coventry, UK.

Background: The theoretical understanding of firesetting behaviour has predominantly been developed with men in prisons or psychiatric hospitals without neurodevelopmental disabilities. Consequently, there is a lack of evidence regarding the validity of current theory when applied to adults with intellectual disabilities and/or autism.

Method: Thirteen adults in England with intellectual and other developmental disabilities were interviewed about the affective, cognitive, behavioural, and contextual factors leading up to and surrounding a recorded firesetting incident.

Anhedonia, a transdiagnostic symptom prevalent in depressive and psychotic disorders, poses a significant challenge for pharmacological intervention due to its association with impaired motivation. Understanding how psychotropic drugs can modulate this pathological domain and elucidating the molecular mechanisms underlying such effects are crucial endeavors in psychiatric research. In this study, we aimed to investigate the pro-motivational properties of lurasidone in a rat (Sprague Dawley males) model of anhedonia and to unravel the interplay between lurasidone and the brain regions critical for reward processing.

Motivation: Microbiota-derived metabolites significantly impact host biology, prompting extensive research on metabolic shifts linked to the microbiota. Recent studies have explored both direct metabolite analyses and computational tools for inferring metabolic functions from microbial shotgun metagenome data. However, no existing tool specifically focuses on predicting changes in individual metabolite levels, as opposed to metabolic pathway activities, based on shotgun metagenome data.
