Suitably decorated small aromatic systems can organize stacked structures that display interesting properties arising from their unique morphologies. Although nanographenes produced by top-down methods have graphitic domains and can in principle be applied for such supramolecular systems, to our knowledge, no such example has been reported thus far. This is partly because of their limited solubility in organic solvents and partly because of their wide lateral size distribution. To realize nanographene-based supramolecular aggregates, nanographenes carrying alkyl chains with narrow lateral size distributions are employed. We find that the nanographenes undergo self-assembly and that self-assembly is regulated by concentration, solvent polarity, temperature, and sonication. Optical measurements and AFM images indicate that stacked structures are possible candidates for aggregates. A molecular mechanics calculation models the interactions in the aggregates. The nanographenes showed concentration-dependent morphologies on mica, stacked structures at low concentrations and polymer-like network structures on mica at higher concentrations.

Ribozymes that catalyze site-specific RNA modification have recently gained increasing interest for their ability to mimic methyltransferase enzymes and for their application to install molecular tags. Recently, we reported SAMURI as a site-specific alkyltransferase ribozyme using S-adenosylmethionine (SAM) or a stabilized analog to transfer a methyl or propargyl group to N of an adenosine. Here, we report the crystal structures of SAMURI in the postcatalytic state.

Proximity ferroelectricity in wurtzite heterostructures.

Nature

Department of Materials Science and Engineering, The Pennsylvania State University, University Park, PA, USA.

Proximity ferroelectricity is an interface-associated phenomenon in electric-field-driven polarization reversal in a non-ferroelectric polar material induced by one or more adjacent ferroelectric materials. Here we report proximity ferroelectricity in wurtzite ferroelectric heterostructures. In the present case, the non-ferroelectric layers are AlN and ZnO, whereas the ferroelectric layers are AlBN, AlScN and ZnMgO.

Electronic address:

Yeasts play a crucial role in determining the quality and yield of sauce-flavor Baijiu, yet the source, succession, and metabolic functions of the yeast community in fermented grains during stacking fermentation remains unclear. In this study, amplicon sequencing combined with solid-state fermentation was used to investigate the structure and function of yeast community during the first-round fermentation of sauce-flavor Baijiu. The richness and diversity of yeast community increased throughout fermentation, with 83.

Porous supramolecular crystalline materials (PSCMs), usually including hydrogen-bonded organic frameworks (HOFs), π frameworks, and so on, can be defined as a type of porous supramolecular assemblies stabilized by hydrogen-bonding, π-π stacking and other non-covalent interactions. Given the unique features of mild synthetic conditions, well-defined and tailorable structures, easy healing and regeneration, PSCMs have captured widespread interest in molecular recognition, sensor, gas storage and separation, and so on. Moreover, they currently emerge as promising photocatalysts because it is readily to endow PSCMs with photo-function, and the hydrogen-bonding and π-π stacking can serve as electron transfer channels to boost photocatalytic activity.

Direct understanding of the formation and crystallization of low-dimensional (LD) perovskites with varying dimensionalities employing the same bulky cations can offer insights into LD perovskites and their heterostructures with 3D perovskites. In this study, the secondary amine cation of N-methyl-1-(naphthalen-1-yl)methylammonium (M-NMA) and the formation dynamics of its corresponding LD perovskite are investigated. The intermolecular π-π stacking of M-NMA and their connection with inorganic PbI octahedrons within the product structures control the formation of LD perovskite.
