Anesthesia remains a high-risk specialty, even though the discipline has evolved considerably over the last few decades. Independently of postoperative complications, some risks are inherent to the perioperative period itself. In this narrative review of the literature, we describe these risks and the predictive scores, allowing an assessment of these complications. All these scores are designed to detect high-risk patients and to promote personalized medicine and individualized anesthesia. They also increase the objectivity of the preoperative assessment. Finally, using these scores, the practitioner can more accurately respond to the patient who presents anxiety regarding the perioperative period.

Background: vNOTES has been documented as a viable approach for conducting benign gynecologic surgery; however, its application in ectopic pregnancy cases remains relatively scarce. The principal objective of this investigation was to assess the practicability, effectiveness, and safety of vNOTES in surgical procedures related to ectopic pregnancy.
Methods: Clinical data pertaining to patients diagnosed with ectopic pregnancy at Beijing Hospital between January 2018 and August 2023 were retrospectively collected (This study retrospectively registered with the China Clinical Trial Registry with the registration number ChiCTR2100052223 in September 22, 2021.

Purpose: To assess the effect of anterior chamber depth on corneal endothelium using specular microscopy following uneventful phacoemulsification among cataract patients with different axial lengths.
Methods: The study was conducted in a quasi-experimental design including 300 eyes of 300 patients with grade three age-related nuclear cataract distributed equally based on their axial length into three equal groups. All eyes had grade three nuclear cataract.

Purpose: In totally endoscopic off-pump left atrial appendage (LAA) closure and surgical ablation, securing the operative field is sometimes difficult in some patients because of a narrow working space caused by an elevated diaphragm or ventricles. In this study, we aimed to investigate the effectiveness of a method that facilitates securing the operative field using an artificial pneumothorax.
Methods: We analyzed 71 consecutive patients who underwent totally endoscopic off-pump LAA closure and bilateral pulmonary vein isolation.

Introduction: Regional anesthetic blocks are an adjunct to decrease pediatric opioid utilization and improve perioperative pain control. We compared opioid use in patients who underwent umbilical hernia repair (UHR) with or without preoperative bilateral rectus sheath block (BRSB).
Methods: We conducted a single-center retrospective cohort study evaluating opioid use in patients <18 years who underwent an UHR.

Background: Sepsis is an infection-related systemic inflammation with high mortality rates. Activation of formyl peptide receptor 1 (FPR1) in immune cells can promote their chemotaxis and inflammatory response, which imbalances immune response during the process of sepsis. FPR1 blockade did diminish systemic inflammatory response during bacterial infection.
