High-quality inorganic cesium lead halide perovskite quantum dot (CsPbBr PQD) thin films were successfully deposited directly from a powdered source and used as an active laser medium following the examination of their distinctive surface and structural properties. To determine the suitability of the CsPbBr PQDs as an active laser medium, amplified spontaneous emission (ASE) and optical gain properties were investigated under picosecond pulse excitation using the variable stripe length (VSL) method. The thin film of CsPbBr PQDs has exhibited a sufficient value of the optical absorption coefficient of ∼0.86 × 10 cm near the band edge and a direct band gap energy ∼2.38 eV. The samples showed enhanced emission, and ASE was successfully recorded at a low threshold. The light emitted from the edge was observed near 2.40 and 2.33 eV for the stimulated emission (SE) and ASE regimes, respectively. The nonradiative decay contributes excitons dominant over biexcitons in the sample edge emission above the ASE threshold, making it practical for CsPbBr PQDs to be used as optical gain media without undergoing repeated SE processes above the threshold over long periods. A high value of the optical gain coefficient was recorded at 346 cm.

Supervised machine learning statistical models for visual outcome prediction in macular hole surgery: a single-surgeon, standardized surgery study.

Int J Retina Vitreous

January 2025

Department of Retina and Vitreous, Narayana Nethralaya, #121/C, 1st R Block, Chord Road, Rajaji Nagar, Bengaluru, 560010, India.

Purpose: To evaluate the predictive accuracy of various machine learning (ML) statistical models in forecasting postoperative visual acuity (VA) outcomes following macular hole (MH) surgery using preoperative optical coherence tomography (OCT) parameters.

Methods: This retrospective study included 158 eyes (151 patients) with full-thickness MHs treated between 2017 and 2023 by the same surgeon and using the same intraoperative surgical technique. Data from electronic medical records and OCT scans were extracted, with OCT-derived qualitative and quantitative MH characteristics recorded.

During flight, spatial disorientation (SD) commonly occurs when a pilot's perception conflicts with the aircraft's actual motion, attitude, or position. A prevalent form of SD is the somatogyral illusion, which is elicited by constant speed rotation and causes a false perception of motion in the opposite direction when the rotation ceases. This research aimed to investigate changes in brain activity that occur when experiencing a somatogyral illusion by simulating conditions closely mimicking flight conditions to gain insight into how to better manage this illusion during flight.

The transient dynamics of photocurrents for poly((4-diphenylamino)benzyl acrylate) (PDAA)-based photorefractive (PR) polymers sensitized with perylene bisimide derivative N,N'-diisopropylphenyl-1,6,7,12-tetrachloroperylene-3,4,9,10-tetracarboxyl bisimide (PBI) at various composition ratios were studied. The PR polymer included (4-(diphenylamino)phenyl)methanol (TPAOH) photoconductive plasticizer and (4-(azepan-1-yl)-benzylidene) malononitrile nonlinear optical dye as well, which are needed for inducing PR effects. All the photocurrents measured at 640 nm were well simulated by a two-trapping site model considering photocarrier generation and recombination processes of the charge transfer (CT) complex between PBI and PDAA.

: Despite evidence that low vision rehabilitation (LVR) services can improve visual function in patients with neovascular age-related macular degeneration (nAMD), many patients are not directed to access these resources. This study was conducted to determine factors associated with LVR referral and to assess the visual outcomes from completed evaluations. : The study comprised a retrospective, cross-sectional analysis of patients with nAMD.

Some patients with neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD)-like symptoms test negative for anti-aquaporin-4 (anti-AQP4) antibodies. Among them, a subset has antibodies targeting myelin oligodendrocyte glycoprotein (MOG), a condition now termed MOG antibody-associated disease (MOGAD). MOGAD shares features with NMOSD, like optic neuritis and myelitis, but differs in pathophysiology, clinical presentation, imaging findings, and biomarkers.
