Unlabelled: The purpose of this article is to clarify the character of Müller's muscle in Chinese specimens.

Methods: Ten upper eyelids of 10 formalin-fixed Chinese cadavers (9 elderly people, from 68 to 86 years of age; 1 male child, 10 years old) were examined. Full-thickness sagittal sections of the central part of the upper eyelids were microscopically examined using hematoxylin-eosin, Masson trichrome, and anti-smooth muscle actin antibodies staining.

Result: In 9 elderly specimens, Müller's muscle inserted onto tarsus via fibers, and the smooth muscle components decreased gradually and even faded away from the originated inferior branch of levator palpebrae superioris muscle to the upper margin of tarsus, although, in 1 child specimen, Müller's muscle inserted directly onto tarsus rather than connective fibrous structure, and smooth muscle components did not decrease obviously. Both in elderly and young specimens, the aponeurotic structure that originated from Müller's muscle extended to the tarsal plate.

Conclusion: This study suggests that Müller's muscle inserts onto the tarsus via fibrous tissue or smooth muscle, and also indicates that the smooth components of Müller's muscle may decrease gradually in elderly people.

Aerobic exercise (AE) is associated with a significant hypoglycemia risk in individuals with type 1 diabetes mellitus (T1DM). However, the mechanisms in the liver and skeletal muscle governing exercise-induced hypoglycemia in T1DM are poorly understood. This study examined the effects of a 60-minute bout of AE on hepatic and muscle glucose metabolism in T1DM rats.

Pathogenic variants in cause congenital muscular dystrophy through hypoglycosylation of alpha-dystroglycan (OMIM #615350). The established phenotypic spectrum of GMPPB-related disorders includes recurrent rhabdomyolysis, limb-girdle muscular dystrophy, neuromuscular transmission abnormalities, and congenital muscular dystrophy with variable brain and eye anomalies. We report a 9-month-old male infant with congenital muscular dystrophy, infantile spasms, and compound heterozygous pathogenic variants (c.

Three-dimensional measurement of the depth of invasion in oral squamous cell carcinoma samples using Lugol's iodine-enhanced micro-computed tomography: an original study.

J Appl Oral Sci

January 2025

Nanjing University, Research Institute of Stomatology, Affiliated Hospital of Medical School, Nanjing Stomatological Hospital, Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Trauma Orthognathic Plastic Surgery, Nanjing, China.

Objectives: Depth of invasion (DOI) in oral squamous cell carcinoma (OSCC) guides treatment and prognosis but lacks three-dimensional (3D) insight. Thus, this study aimed to investigate the feasibility and accuracy of Lugol's iodine-enhanced micro-computed tomography (CT) for the 3D measurement of DOI in OSCC samples.

Methodology: In total, 50 in vitro OSCC samples from Nanjing Stomatological Hospital (July 2022 to January 2024) were subjected to micro-CT imaging with a slice thickness of 50 μm following 3% Lugol iodine staining for 12 h, followed by pathological examination and staining.

Universidade Federal de Mato Grosso do Sul - UFMS, Faculdade de Medicina Veterinária e Zootecnia - FAMEZ, Campo Grande, MS, Brasil.

This study aimed to evaluate the effects of Ocimum basilicum supplementation in the diet for Piaractus mesopotamicus regarding productive performance, intestinal morphology, muscle residue, and hematological changes after simulated transport stress. Juvenile (23 g±0.08, n = 180) were stocked into 300-L tanks in three treatments and six replicates each: a control diet (not supplemented), a diet with 0.

Background: Risk factors for gluteal tears include age-related deterioration, female sex, and increased body mass index. As the literature that supports the sagittal relationship between the lumbar spine and the hip is increasing, there may be a parallel relationship between the perturbations in spinopelvic alignment caused by lumbar spine disease and gluteal muscle tears. Because no prior studies other than single-institution series have reported on this phenomenon, we investigated spine-abductor syndrome at the population level.
