Background: The evidence on the link between cardiometabolic diseases (CMDs) and motor neuron diseases (MNDs) remains inconsistent. We aimed to determine whether there is an association of CMDs, namely, any cardiovascular disease, cardiac arrhythmia, heart failure, thromboembolic disease, hypertension, cerebrovascular disease, ischemic heart disease, diabetes mellitus type 2, and hypercholesterolemia with the risk and progression of MNDs.

Methods: We included 1463 MND patients (amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), primary lateral sclerosis (PLS), progressive spinal muscular atrophy (PSMA), and unspecified MND) diagnosed from January 1, 2015, to July 1, 2023, in Sweden according to the Swedish Motor Neuron Disease Quality Registry (i.

Background: The benefits of intravenous thrombolysis in patients with acute minor stroke remain controversial. For the aim of providing a better therapeutic strategy, high-quality trials are required to validate the efficacy of thrombolytic medicine other than intravenous recombinant tissue plasminogen and tenecteplase. In the trial, we evaluate the efficacy and safety of urokinase (UK) in acute minor stroke.

Purpose: To investigate the modifying role of obesity in the association between abnormal glucose metabolism and atrial fibrillation (AF) risk in older individuals.

Methods: From April 2007 to November 2011, 11663 participants aged ≥60 years were enrolled in Shandong area. Glucose metabolic status were determined using fasting plasma glucose and hemoglobin A1c levels, obesity determined using body mass index (BMI), waist-to-hip ratio (WHR), and visceral fat area (VFA).

Five racemic phthalides from the aerial parts of Lycopodiastrum casuarinoides and their neuroprotective activities.

Phytochemistry

January 2025

Xiangya School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, Central South University, Changsha, Hunan, 410013, China. Electronic address:

Five racemic phthalides (1-5), including four undescribed phthalides monomers [(+)-1, (+)-2, (-)-2 and (-)-3], four undescribed phthalide dimers [(+)-4, (-)-4, (+)-5 and (-)-5], together with two known compounds [(-)-1 and (+)-3], were isolated from the aerial parts of Lycopodistrum casuarinoides. Their chemical structures were delineated by extensive spectroscopic data (UV, 1D/2D NMR, HRESIMS), in combination with the comparison of the experimental and calculated electronic circular dichroism spectra, calculated spin-spin coupling constants, and calculated NMR. All compounds were reported from Lycopodiaceae family for the first time.

Healthcare users' evaluation of general practice - a survey among Danish men aged 45 to 70 years.

BJGP Open

January 2025

Department of Clinical Research, University of Southern Denmark and Open Patient data Explorative Network, Odense University Hospital, Odense, Denmark.

Background: Knowledge about healthcare users' evaluation of general practice is relatively limited.

Aim: We aimed to investigate evaluations in Danish men of general practice healthcare and of different aspects of general practitioners' (GPs) communication with patients.

Design & Setting: Secondary analyses of data from a web-based survey in 6756 Danish men aged 45-70 years (30% response rate) using municipality-level information from registries, self-reported sociodemographic data, personality characteristics, and five-point Likert scale evaluations of healthcare and communication in general practice.
