Carbonaceous aerosols were characterized in 19 Chinese cities during winter and summer of 2013. Measurements of organic carbon (OC) and elemental carbon (EC) levels were compared with those from 14 corresponding cities sampled in 2003 to evaluate effects of emission changes over a decade. Average winter and summer OC and EC decreased by 32% and 17%, respectively, from 2003 to 2013, corresponding to nationwide emission control policies implemented since 2006. The extent of carbon reduction varied by season and by location. Larger reductions were found for secondary organic carbon (SOC, 49%) than primary organic carbon (POC, 25%). PM mass and total carbon concentrations were three to four times higher during winter than summer especially in the northern cities that use coal combustion for heating.

Many COVID-19 outbreaks occurred in senior care facilities during the last three years. Senior care facilities are nursing places for the long-term treatment and care of senior citizens, who are prone to be exposed to an infectious disease that spreads into these buildings. Therefore, this study investigated airborne contaminant transmissions based on outbreak cases in senior care facilities in Korea and analyzed the potential impact of architectural features in a selected senior care facility using network simulations.

The western Indian continental shelf (eastern Arabian Sea) exhibits contrasting biogeochemical features. This area becomes highly productive due to summer monsoon-driven coastal upwelling in the south and winter monsoon-induced convective mixing in the north. Additionally, in the northern self, the eastern boundary of the Oxygen Minimum Zone (OMZ) persists but is absent in the south.

Unlabelled: This study investigated the impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic and its associated restrictive measures on infections in children with acute respiratory tract infection. The study aimed to elucidate the epidemiological characteristics of infections before and during the pandemic and following the easing of restrictive measures. Pharyngeal secretions were collected from 1,0174 pediatric patients with acute respiratory infection (ARI) who were admitted to Shaoxing Maternity and Child Health Care Hospital (Shaoxing, China) between May 2018 and December 2023.

Background: Community acquired lower respiratory tract infection (LRTI) is a leading cause for hospitalization in children and important cause for antibiotic prescription. We aimed to describe the aetiology of LRTI in children and analyse factors associated with bacterial or viral infection.
Methods: Patients aged < 19 years with a diagnosis of LRTI were identified from the Observational Medical Outcomes Partnership Common Data Model Database of Seoul National University Bundang Hospital from January 2005-July 2019, and their clinical characteristics were obtained from the electronic medical records and retrospectively reviewed.

Dust aerosols significantly impact climate, human health, and ecosystems, but how land cover changes (LCC) influence dust concentrations remains unclear. Here, we applied the Weather Research and Forecasting model coupled with Chemistry (WRF-Chem) to assess the effects of LCC on dust aerosol concentrations from 2000 to 2020 in northern China. Based on land cover data derived from multi-source satellite remote sensing data, we conducted two simulation scenarios: one incorporating actual annual LCC and another assuming static land cover since 2000.
