. The doubling time is the best indicator of the course of the current COVID-19 pandemic. The aim of the present investigation was to determine the impact of policies and several sociodemographic factors on the COVID-19 doubling time in Mexico. . A retrospective longitudinal study was carried out across March-August, 2020. Policies issued by each of the 32 Mexican states during each week of this period were classified according to the University of Oxford Coronavirus Government Response Tracker (OxCGRT), and the doubling time of COVID-19 cases was calculated. Additionally, variables such as population size and density, poverty and mobility were included. A panel data model was applied to measure the effect of these variables on doubling time. . States with larger population sizes issued a larger number of policies. Delay in the issuance of policies was associated with accelerated propagation. The policy index (coefficient 0.60, < 0.01) and the income per capita (coefficient 3.36, < 0.01) had a positive effect on doubling time; by contrast, the population density (coefficient -0.012, < 0.05), the mobility in parks (coefficient -1.10, < 0.01) and the residential mobility (coefficient -4.14, < 0.01) had a negative effect. . Health policies had an effect on slowing the pandemic's propagation, but population density and mobility played a fundamental role. Therefore, it is necessary to implement policies that consider these variables.

The development of silk fibroin-based hydrogels with excellent biocompatibility, aqueous processability, and facile controllability in structure is indeed an exciting advancement for biological research and strain sensor applications. However, silk fibroin-based hydrogel strain sensors that combine high conductivity, high stretchability, reusability, and high selectivity are still desired. Herein, we report a simple method for preparing double-network hydrogels including silk fibroin and poly(acrylic acid) sodium-polyacrylate (PAA-PAAS) networks.

Background: Receptor-interacting protein kinase 1 (RIPK1), a serine/threonine protein kinase, is mainly activated by pro-inflammatory cytokines and pathogens, including severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), and its activation could result in apoptosis, necroptosis, or inflammation. This study was conducted to evaluate the safety and efficacy of a potent and selective inhibitor of RIPK1, SIR1-365, in hospitalized patients with severe coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19).
Methods: This multicenter, randomized, double-blind, phase 1b study screened patients from December 18, 2020 until November 27, 2021.

Background: The BCG vaccine induces trained immunity, an epigenetic-mediated increase in innate immune responsiveness. Therefore, this clinical trial evaluated if BCG-induced trained immunity could decrease coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)-related frequency or severity.
Methods: A double-blind, placebo-controlled clinical trial of healthcare workers randomized participants to vaccination with BCG TICE or placebo (saline).

Cavitation has been a hot research topic for scholars in various fields because of the intense mechanical, chemical, and thermal effects of bubble collapse. It forms a cluster of bubbles, and the bubbles will affect, interfere with, and couple with each other. To grasp the main factors affecting bubble collapse and the interbubble mechanism, the paper adopts the molecular dynamics simulation combined with the coarse-grained force field to study the collapse process of the double bubble model and takes the dynamic shape change of the bubbles, the local velocity distribution, and the local pressure distribution as the object to summarize the position angle, the shock velocity, and the bubble distance on the collapse law and the primary and secondary influence relationship and then reveals the interbubble mechanism.

Disease Overview: Chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL) is the most frequent type of leukemia. It typically occurs in older patients and has a highly variable clinical course. Leukemic transformation is initiated by specific genomic alterations that interfere with the regulation of proliferation and apoptosis in clonal B-cells.
