Background: To describe trends observed across thirty years in demographic and clinical characteristics and rehabilitation of patients with bilateral cerebral palsy.
Methods: This retrospective study includes 464 (261 M and 203 F) inpatients with bilateral cerebral palsy, born from 1967 to 1997 and discharged from an outpatient rehabilitative facility from 1985 to 2015. Data concerning the health profile were collected from medical reports and organized in the domains of Body Functions and Structure; Activity and participation and Personal and Environmental factors as proposed in the International Classification of Functioning Disability and Health (ICF). The trend observed over the three birth decades was discussed.
Results: The duration of the rehabilitative treatment decreased across decades approximately by two years per decade (from an initial 16.2 yrs to 12.3 yrs). Across the decades the rate of quadriplegia decreased, whereas rates of diplegia increased; spasticity was the prevalent observed motor type for all decades. The most frequent musculoskeletal disorder involved the middle inferior part of the body; among comorbidities a steady decrease in psychiatric disorders was found. With respect to the first decade a slight improvement was observed in the gross motor functioning and in the hand dexterity. No particular trend was observed concerning communication abilities. An increase in the use of pharmacological and surgical treatments for motor symptoms was observed.
Conclusion: This study presents and describes the functioning of a large sample of Italian patients with bilateral CP on the basis of the ICF framework and it discussed the trend observed across decades.

Background And Purpose: We explored the impact of various craniotomy approaches on the outcomes and long-term cognitive function of microsurgical clipping for superiorly projecting anterior communicating artery (ACoA) aneurysms.
Methods: We retrospectively analyzed 127 superiorly projected ACoA aneurysms underwent microsurgical clipping between January 2014 and January 2022. Patients were categorized into two types: type 1 (70 patients), characterized by the posterior positioning of the ipsilateral A2 segment (open A2 plane side), and type 2 (57 patients), characterized by the anterior positioning of the ipsilateral A2 segment (closed A2 plane side).

In response to sensory deprivation, the brain adapts to efficiently navigate a modified perceptual environment through a process referred to as compensatory crossmodal plasticity, allowing the remaining senses to repurpose deprived regions and networks. A mechanism that has been proposed to contribute to this plasticity involves adaptations within subcortical nuclei that trigger cascading effects throughout the brain. The current study uses 7T MRI to investigate the effect of perinatal deafness on the volumes of subcortical structures in felines, focusing on key sensory nuclei within the brainstem and thalamus.

Alternating bilateral sensory stimulation (ABS) is a clinical physical therapy technique effective in treating post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). However, its utilization in treating conditions beyond PTSD remains limited. Here, we present a protocol to reduce ethanol-induced conditioned place preference (CPP) using 4 Hz ABS.

Background: Volume alterations in the parietal subregion have received less attention in Alzheimer's disease (AD), and their role in predicting conversion of mild cognitive impairment (MCI) to AD and cognitively normal (CN) to MCI remains unclear. In this study, we aimed to assess the volumetric variation of the parietal subregion at different cognitive stages in AD and to determine the role of parietal subregions in CN and MCI conversion.
Methods: We included 662 participants from the Alzheimer's Disease Neuroimaging Initiative (ADNI) database, including 228 CN, 221 early MCI (EMCI), 112 late MCI (LMCI), and 101 AD participants.

Objectives: The current study aimed to investigate the structural and functional connectivity of the subregions of the amygdala in children with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) only or comorbid with Oppositional Defiant Disorder (ODD).
Methods: A total of 354 children with ADHD-only, 161 children with ADHD and ODD (ADHD + ODD), and 100 healthy controls were enrolled. The Child Behavior Checklist (CBCL) and the Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function (BRIEF) were filled out by caregivers.
