COVID-19 as a chance for hybrid teaching concepts.

Published: March 2021

COVID-19 has turned the 2020 spring semester upside down. Three days before the start of the block week of the "Teamwork" module, the Federal Office of Public Health (FOPH) announced the ban on live interaction, which made it impossible to conduct five days of practice in the simulation centre of the University Hospital of Zurich. But how can the teaching of all the learning objectives necessary for medical training be guaranteed during an exceptional situation with constantly changing conditions? In the case of the BSc Human Medicine at ETH Zurich (ETHZ), the answer is: Hybrid teaching. The field report "COVID-19 as a chance for hybrid teaching concepts" outlines how ETHZ switched to hybrid teaching within a very short time and how hospital placements were combined with video conferences. The qualitative surveys conducted at the end of the semester and the weekly quantitative surveys of students from March to June indicate the importance of personal exchange despite the ban on contact and that interactivity is possible even without physical proximity. An example from the autumn semester will also be used to show which aspects have proved to be successful and can therefore be retained.

Objectives: To evaluate the implementation and sustainability of the effect of a 1-year Leadership in Education for Neurodevelopmental and related Disabilities (LEND) program in a southeastern state, and to examine its impact on advancing the Maternal Child Health Bureau's (MCHB) Blueprint for Change-a national agenda for pediatric healthcare reform.

Methods: This study applies the Exploration, Preparation, Implementation, and Sustainment (EPIS) framework to rigorously evaluate LEND implementation and impact between 2018 and 2022. In-depth interviews (N = 24) were conducted among long-term (1-year) LEND trainees, via Zoom, in a southeastern state.

Discovery of selective ROCK2 inhibitors with free radical scavenging ability for the treatment of gouty arthritis.

Mol Divers

January 2025

Key Laboratory of Structure-Based Drugs Design and Discovery of Ministry of Education, Shenyang Pharmaceutical University, Shenyang, PR China.

ROCK inhibitors can inhibit IL-1β and NLRP3, and their therapeutic potential for osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis has been confirmed, but their impact on gouty arthritis has not been reported yet. By hybridization the structure of Edaravone, a series of ROCK inhibitors with pyrazolone scaffold were designed and synthesized. RM-04 has acceptable selective ROCK2 inhibitory activity with an IC of 4.

Spin State Modulation with Oxygen Vacancy Orientates C/N Intermediates for Urea Electrosynthesis of Ultrahigh Efficiency.

The co-electrolysis of CO and NO to synthesize urea has become an effective pathway to alternate the conventional Bosch-Meiser process, while the complexity of C-/N-containing intermediates for C-N coupling results in the urea electrosynthesis of unsatisfactory efficiency. In this work, an electronic spin state modulation maneuver with oxygen vacancies (Ov) is unveiled to effectively meliorate the oriented generation of key intermediates NH and CO for C-N coupling, furnishing urea in ultrahigh yield of 2175.47 µg mg h and Faraday efficiency of 70.

Objective: The aim of this single-center case series is to demonstrate that an ultra-low dose (ULD) can be routinely achieved in the hybrid operating room in standard endovascular aortic repair (EVAR) for infrarenal abdominal aortic aneurysm by adjusting the manufacturer's predefined imaging parameters, hardware configurations and user protocols (including benchmarking).

Methods: The hybrid operating room manufacturer predefined EVAR software setup of the dose exposure control software (OPTIQ, Siemens Healthineers, Forchheim, Germany) at our university medical center was screened for possible improvements regarding radiation dose application. Tests on a water-equivalent as well as polymethyl methacrylate phantom model to assess the impact of technical settings were performed, including comparison of settings for exposure control software, different magnification, collimation configurations and detector distance.
