Bulky terphenyl phosphane ligands PMeAr' (Ar' = terphenyl group) facilitate the isolation of zero-valent bis-phosphane complexes of nickel, palladium and platinum. The former show coordination numbers greater than two in the solid state due to the existence of Ni-C interactions with the terphenyl fragment.

Highly toxic halo-/nitro-substituted organics, often in low concentrations and with high hydrophobicity, make it difficult to obtain electrons for reduction when strongly electron-competing substances (e.g., O, H/HO, NO) coexist.

Highly functionalized xanthenes possess an impressive range of bioactivities and daunting synthetic challenge due to their unique ring systems and stereocenters. Here, we report an unprecedented ketyl radicals-induced skeletal rearrangement reaction of spirodihydrobenzofurans, enabled by zero-valent iron as reducing agents via photoredox catalysis, facilitating the facile preparation of various highly functionalized xanthenes. The features of this protocol include high chemo- and regioselectivity, exceptionally mild conditions, a broad substrate scope, scalability to gram-scale quantities, and consistent delivery of good to excellent yields.

Biological charcoal loaded with nano zero-valent iron (nZVI@BC) was synthesized using the bioleaching co-pyrolysis method. This study analyzed the formulation sequence of nZVI@BC and its influence on chromium elimination from water and soil, along with the involved mechanisms. The bioleaching method facilitated ionic iron incorporation onto biochar in the form of yellow potassium ferroalum compounds, which were reduced to Fe by H, CO, and CH generated during biomass co-pyrolysis.

Synthesis of metal-doped biochar have gained prominence due to their adsorption capability for heavy metal(loid)s. In this study, iron-doped biochar (Fe-BC) was fabricated through pyrolysis of waste mushroom substrate (WMS) with red mud (RM). The synthesised Fe-BC was employed as an adsorbent for Pb removal.

Pristine or modified nanoscale zero-valent iron (nZVI) synthesized though conventional chemical reduction have been widely recommended for remediating metal(loid)-contaminated water. However, their eco-friendliness is often challenged with the concomitant bio-toxicity and secondary environmental risks. Alternatively, this study utilized waste tea leaves extract and remaining residue as the reducing agent and pyrolytic matrix to innovatively fabricate a green synthesized nZVI impregnated tea residue biochar (G-nZVI/TB).
