Leiomyosarcoma (LMS) of the skin is a rare smooth muscle neoplasm of all soft tissue sarcoma. Because of its prognostic importance, early diagnosis is critical for successful treatment. Since several features and clinical manifestations are similar to those of a keloid scar, the differential diagnosis between these two diseases is difficult, especially in the early stages of cancer that do not show any remarkable features in appearance, or when the patient has a history of previous wounds or surgery. In our case report, a 71-year-old female patient who underwent a scalp reconstruction using an anterolateral thigh flap turned out to have, because of delayed diagnosis, a dermal LMS mimicking a keloid scar. The case emphasizes careful physical examination for early intervention, even if a lesion looks like a typical keloid scar. After resection, the appropriate reconstruction method can be selected based on the complexity of the defect site.

Urethral strictures and bladder neck contractures (BNCs) can be significantly morbid for patients and may require intervention for effective urinary drainage. We hypothesized patients with abnormal scarring disorders, such as keloids or hypertrophic scars, are at elevated risks of urethroplasty failure as well as postprocedural urethral strictures and BNCs. We queried the TriNetX database to determine the risk of urethroplasty failure for patients with abnormal scarring disorders compared to controls.

Several treatment modalities have been used for the treatment of keloid scarring but the optimal treatment has not yet been identified. Corticosteroids reduce excessive scarring by reducing collagen synthesis. Vitamin D can curb inflammation by inhibiting the activation and migration of leukocytes.

Pre-sternal keloids are a distinct clinicopathological entity differing in many ways from keloids occurring elsewhere, as there are differences in pathogenesis, clinical presentation, and management. We have reviewed commonly used assessment scales like the Vancouver Scar Scale, the Patient and Observer Scar Assessment Scale, and the Detroit Keloid Scale and identified some shortcomings in applying them in assessing pre-sternal keloids. Therefore, we developed the AIIMS Bhopal pre-sternal keloid scale (ABPSKS), a pre-sternal keloid-specific tool to enable the assessment of the severity of the disease, the efficacy of treatment, and the comparison of outcomes of different treatment modalities.

Introduction: Keloids are a common skin disorder characterized by excessive fibrous tissue proliferation, which can significantly impact patients' health. Ferroptosis, a form of regulated cell death, plays a crucial role in the development of fibrosis; however, its role in the mechanisms of keloid formation remains poorly understood.
Methods: This study aimed to identify key genes associated with ferroptosis in keloid formation.

Purpose: This study investigated the effects and related mechanisms of Vestigial-like family member 3 (VGLL3) on keloid fibroblast (KF) proliferation, apoptosis, collagen production, and glycolysis.
Methods: Western blot, qRT-PCR, and immunohistochemistry were used for determining VGLL3 expression. KF viability, proliferation, and apoptosis were assessed using CCK-8 assay, EdU assay, and flow cytometry.
