Dysfunctional phagocytic clearance of β-amyloid (Aβ) in microglia and peripheral macrophages/monocytes has been implicated in Alzheimer's disease, but the mechanisms underlying this dysfunction are not yet well understood. In this study, we examined the role of glia maturation factor-γ (GMFG), an actin-disassembly protein, i.e.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) is a significant obstacle to lowering global cancer deaths. CB-5083, a novel valosin-containing protein (VCP)/p97 inhibitor that disrupts proteasomal degradation and induces endoplasmic reticulum stress (ERS) accumulation, was evaluated as an inducer of immunogenic cell death (ICD) in PDAC treatment. Furthermore, miR-142 enhances checkpoint blockade and promotes M1 repolarization, while Toll-like receptor 7/8 agonist resiquimod (R) acts as an immunoadjuvant to amplify the immune response to miR-142.

Intravascular hemolysis is a common feature of different clinical entities, including sickle cell disease and malaria. Chronic hemolytic disorders are associated with hepatic damage; however, it is unknown whether heme disturbs lipid metabolism and promotes liver steatosis, thereby favoring the progression to nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Using an experimental model of acute intravascular hemolysis, we report here the presence of liver injury in association with microvesicular lipid droplet deposition.

Neuroprotection to attenuate or block the ischemic cascade and salvage neuronal damage has been extensively explored for treating ischemic stroke. However, despite increasing knowledge of the physiologic, mechanistic, and imaging characterizations of the ischemic penumbra, no effective neuroprotective therapy has been found. This study focuses on the neuroprotective bioactivity of docosanoid mediators: Neuroprotectin D1 (NPD1), Resolvin D1 (RvD1), and their combination in experimental stroke.

Adding biomolecules to living organisms and cells is the basis for creating living materials or biohybrids for robotic systems. Bioorthogonal chemistry allows covalently modifying biomolecules with functional groups not natively present under biological conditions and is therefore applicable to microorganisms and cells. Click chemistry is a biorthogonal chemistry approach that allows the study and manipulation of living entities.
