The case of a young patient suffering from a hypereosinophilic syndrome (HES), complicated by restrictive cardiomyopathy and severe mitral regurgitation is analyzed, according to clinical, echocardiographic, haemodynamic, and bioptic histological findings. Seven days after mitral valve replacement (St. Jude Medical valve), the patient died in cardiogenic shock. The present state of treatment of this disease is discussed.
