Benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (BPPV) is among the most common inner ear diseases. Although BPPV is one of the most common causes of dizziness, its pathogenesis remains unknown. Air pollutants might reach the middle ear through the eustachian tube and be absorbed into the inner ear through the round window membrane, increasing the risk of BPPV. We investigated the relationship between air pollution and BPPV risk. Data were extracted from the Korean Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service database, which contains health claims information of the entire South Korean population. Variables of interest included the number of patients diagnosed with BPPV in Seoul, South Korea, patients' clinical and demographic characteristics, and osteopenia status. Seoul's daily air pollution indicators, including SO, CO, O, NO, PM, and PM, were obtained from the Korea Environment Corporation website. Overdispersed Poisson regression analysis was performed. In the multivariable analysis, NO air concentration (ppb) was associated with increased incidence of BPPV. In analysis stratified by gender, levels of NO were associated with increased incidence of BPPV in both men and women. In the analysis stratified by age, NO air concentration was associated with increased incidence of BPPV among all adults over the age of 19 years. In the analysis stratified by osteopenia status, NO was associated with increased incidence of BPPV in patients with and without osteopenia. Air levels of NO were associated with increased incidence of BPPV in the present study. This finding contributes toward a better understanding of BPPV pathogenesis and improved prevention and management of this condition.

Backgrounds And Aims: CD8+T cells are crucially associated with the fight against hepatitis B virus (HBV) infection. CD161 has been shown to express remarkably on HCV-specific CD8+T cells. However, the accurate function of CD161+CD8+T cells in HBV immunity or pathogenesis remains undetermined.

We previously documented successful resolution of skeletal and dental disease in the infantile and late-onset murine models of hypophosphatasia (HPP), with a single injection of an adeno-associated serotype 8 vector encoding mineral-targeted TNAP (AAV8-TNAP-D10). Here, we conducted dosing studies in both HPP mouse models. A single escalating dose from 4x108 up to 4x1010 (vg/b) was intramuscularly injected into 4-day-old Alpl-/- mice (an infantile HPP model) and a single dose from 4x106 up to 4x109 (vg/b) was administered to 8-week-old AlplPrx1/Prx1 mice (a late-onset HPP model).

Bisphenol A (BPA), an environmental endocrine disrupting chemical, is one of the most widely used chemicals in the world and is widely distributed in the external environment, specifically in food, water, dust, and soil. BPA exposure is associated with abnormal cognitive behaviors. However, the underlying mechanism remains unclear.

Mandibular trabecular bone pattern before and two years after medical or surgical obesity treatment in young Swedish women.

Clin Oral Investig

January 2025

Department of Behavioral and Community Dentistry, Institute of Odontology, Sahlgrenska Academy, University of Gothenburg, P.O. Box 450, Gothenburg, SE-40530, Sweden.

Objective: To investigate if changes in body mass index (BMI) result in changes of the mandibular trabecular bone structure.

Materials And Methods: Females (18-35 years at baseline, mean BMI 42,3) were followed from before (n = 117) until two years (n = 66) after obesity treatment (medical or surgical). The mandibular bone trabeculation was classified as sparse, dense, or mixed on intraoral radiographs (Lindh's index).
