The objective of this study was to develop mathematical equations for describing the change in marbling in Japanese Black steers using longitudinal measurements. Serial ultrasound measurements were taken at 14, 16, 20, and 26 months of age and analyzed using an image analysis software. The longitudinal marbling measurements from the ultrasound images and carcasses were fitted into a nonlinear logistic curve. Data used for the analysis consisted of 749 steers that converged in nonlinear curve fitting and showed reasonable estimated parameters of the logistic curves. The average predicted mature beef marbling score (BMS) and maturation rate were 6.26 and 0.353, respectively, and the average maturity levels at 24 months of age were 83.9%. The heritability estimates for the predicted maturity traits were moderate, indicating that these traits may have potential for genetic improvement. There was a negative relationship between the expected progeny differences between carcass BMS and maturity traits, suggesting that genetic improvement by carcass BMS may lead to the selection of bulls with late maturity for marbling. The results indicate that ultrasound and model building for marbling can be useful tools to correctly select candidate bulls with high marbling in the early fattening period.

The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between the insulin-like peptide 3 (INSL3) receptor (RXFP2) expression levels on spermatozoa and INSL3 concentrations in the seminal plasma of fresh semen from beef bulls with different levels of sperm morphological normality. Ejaculates (n = 44) were collected from 21 yearling Japanese Black beef bulls and categorized into three groups based on the levels of sperm morphological normality: High (normal morphology ≥ 80%; n = 23), Mid (< 80% & ≥ 65%; n = 10) and Low (< 65%; n = 11). Immunofluorescence was used to determine the localization and expression levels of RXFP2 in spermatozoa.

Black hairy tongue, also known as , is a benign oral condition characterized by a dark discoloration and "hairy" appearance on the tongue's dorsal surface, resulting from elongated filiform papillae. This condition is associated with risk factors such as smoking, poor oral hygiene, and diabetes, which increase susceptibility to microbial colonization, particularly by species. Although commonly diagnosed by visual inspection, black hairy tongue is infrequently observed during endoscopic procedures.

A Japanese study reported no significant safety concerns over 5 years of Vonoprazan use; however, elevated serum gastrin and increased parietal cell and foveolar hyperplasia were observed, and long-term safety data beyond 5 years are limited. We report a case that used Vonoprazan for 6 years, complicated by significant gastric epithelial changes during treatment and acute duodenal mucosal lesions following its discontinuation.

Living in racially and ethnically segregated neighborhoods may increase the risk of breast cancer. We examined associations between neighborhood racial and ethnic composition typology and incident primary invasive breast cancer risk in a population-based sample of 102,615 African American/Black, Japanese American, Native Hawaiian, Latino, and White females residing in California and Hawaii from the Multiethnic Cohort (MEC) study between 1993-2019. Hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CI) were estimated using multivariable Cox proportional hazards regression.
