A facile method was successfully developed to prepare strontium-tantalum perovskite oxynitride, SrTaON, and its solid solutions. Urea was employed as a solid nitriding agent to eliminate the use of toxic NH gas. In addition, utilization of sol-gel-derived TaO gel as a Ta precursor allowed for completion of nitridation within a shorter period and at a lower calcination temperature compared with the conventional ammonolysis process. Optimization of the reaction conditions, such as the urea content, allowed for the production of solid solutions of SrTaON and SrTaO. The products exhibited optical absorption and chromatic colors because of the narrower band gaps of oxynitrides compared with those of oxides. The O/N ratios of the solid solutions were easily adjusted by varying the amount of urea in the mixture of precursors. As a result, the colors of the products ranged from yellow to brown. The nitridation process and products developed in this study are interesting environmentally benign alternatives to conventional inorganic pigments.

Short-wave infrared (SWIR) phosphor-converted light-emitting diode (LED) technology holds promise for advancing broadband light sources. Despite the potential, limited research has delved into the energy transfer mechanism from sharp-line to broadband emission in SWIR phosphors, which remains underexplored. Herein, we demonstrate bright SWIR phosphors achieved through Cr/Ni energy transfer in LiGaAl O.

The metabolism of cancer and immune cells plays a crucial role in the initiation, progression, and metastasis of cancer. Cancer cells often undergo metabolic reprogramming to sustain their rapid growth and proliferation, along with meeting their energy demands and biosynthetic needs. Nevertheless, immune cells execute their immune response functions through the specific metabolic pathways, either to recognize, attack, and eliminate cancer cells or to promote the growth or metastasis of cancer cells.

Smart hydrogel sensors with intrinsic responsiveness, such as pH, temperature, humidity, and other external stimuli, possess broad applications in innumerable fields such as biomedical diagnosis, environmental monitoring, and wearable electronics. However, it remains a great challenge to develop wearable structural hydrogels that possess simultaneously body temperature-responsive, adhesion-adaptable, and transparency-tunable. Herein, an innovative skin-mountable thermo-responsive hydrogel is fabricated, which endows tunable optical properties and switchable adhesion properties at different temperatures.

This paper delves into the unexplored area of Advance Directives (ADs) in maritime surroundings, diving into the moral and legal quandaries that crop up when these directives are used at sea. ADs, which include durable powers of attorney and living wills, are essential documents that indicate a person's wishes for healthcare in the event of incapacitation. Global variations in legal recognition pose ethical questions, particularly in non-regulated jurisdictions.

Optical physical unclonable functions (PUFs) are gaining attention as a robust security solution for identification in the expanding Internet of Things (IoT). To enhance the security and functionality of PUFs, integrating multiple optical responses─such as fluorescence and structural color─into a single system is essential. These diverse optical properties enable multilevel authentication, where different layers of security can be verified under varying light conditions, greatly reducing the risk of counterfeiting.
