Background: Atrial Fibrillation ablation in older patients represents a challenge to be addressed to ensure the improvement of the quality of life and survival of these patients. New mapping system tools can help to treat older patients because of its ability to simplify and reduce procedural risks. The new NavX EnSite "Live view" tool allows dynamic "beat to beat" activation and voltage mapping visualization in order to instantly recognize vein disconnection and minimize RF deliveries.

Methods: An 81-year old patient with paroxysmal AF and well-documented firing focus trigger underwent pulmonary veins isolation using NavX EnSite Precision, HD Grid multipolar catheter, and the new "Live view" tool.

Results: All pulmonary veins were successfully isolated with no procedural complications. "Live view" tool allows to perform shorter and safer procedure (total procedural time: 90 minutes, left atrium dwell time: 60 minutes, total RF delivery number: 78).

Conclusion: "Live view tool" allows dynamic activation and voltage mapping in order to perform a safe and tailored approach to ablation, especially in older patients.

Using our recently developed laser speckle contrast imaging (LSCI) to visualize blood vessels and monitor blood flow noninvasively, we test the utility of the developing chick heart as a functional model for drug screening. To this end, we examined the effects of antihypertensive agents Nifedipine and Amlodipine, belonging to the L-type calcium channel antagonist family, on blood flow visualized noninvasively through the intact shell. Guided by the live view mode, the drugs were injected through the shell and ventral to HH16-19 chick embryos.

A holographic telementoring system depicting surgical instrument movements for real-time guidance in open surgeries.

Comput Methods Programs Biomed

November 2024

Department of Surgery, Hamad Medical Corporation, Doha, Qatar. Electronic address:

Background And Objective: During open surgeries, telementoring serves as a valuable tool for transferring surgical knowledge from a specialist surgeon (mentor) to an operating surgeon (mentee). Depicting the intended movements of the surgical instruments over the operative field improves the understanding of the required tool-tissue interaction. The objective of this work is to develop a telementoring system tailored for open surgeries, enabling the mentor to remotely demonstrate the necessary motions of surgical instruments to the mentee.

Center for Advanced Imaging Innovation and Research (CAI2R), New York University Grossman School of Medicine, New York, New York, USA.

Purpose: To propose a framework called live-view golden-angle radial sparse parallel (GRASP) MRI for low-latency and high-fidelity real-time volumetric MRI.

Methods: Live-view GRASP MRI has two stages. The first one is called an off-view stage and the second one is called a live-view stage.

Real-time redox adaptations in human airway epithelial cells exposed to isoprene hydroxy hydroperoxide.

Public Health and Integrated Toxicology Division, U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Chapel Hill, NC, USA. Electronic address:

While redox processes play a vital role in maintaining intracellular homeostasis by regulating critical signaling and metabolic pathways, supra-physiological or sustained oxidative stress can lead to adverse responses or cytotoxicity. Inhalation of ambient air pollutants such as particulate matter and secondary organic aerosols (SOA) induces oxidative stress in the respiratory tract through mechanisms that remain poorly understood. We investigated the effect of isoprene hydroxy hydroperoxide (ISOPOOH), an atmospheric oxidation product of vegetation-derived isoprene and a constituent of SOA, on intracellular redox homeostasis in cultured human airway epithelial cells (HAEC).
