Transient heat generation during guest adsorption and host-guest interactions is a natural phenomenon in metal-organic framework (MOF) chemistry. However, in situ tracking of such MOF released heat is an insufficiently researched field due to the fast heat dissipation to the surroundings. Herein, a facile capillary-driven liquid-imbibition approach is developed for in situ tracking of transient heat release at the wetting front of surface-mounted MOFs (SURMOFs) on cellulosic fiber substrates. Spatiotemporal temperature distributions are obtained with infrared thermal imaging for a range of MOF-based substrates and imbibed liquids. Temperature rises at the wetting front of water and binary mixtures with organic solvents are found to be over 10 K with an ultrafast and distinguishable thermal signal response (<1 s) with a detectable concentration limit ≤1 wt%. As an advancement to the state-of-the-art in trace-solvent detection technologies, this study shows great prospects for the integration of SURMOFs in future sensor devices. Inspired by this prototypal study, SURMOF-based transient heat signal transduction is likely to be extended to an ever-expanding library of SURMOFs and other classes of surface-grafted porous materials, translating into a wide range of convenient, portable, and ubiquitous sensor devices.

The construction of tunnels can easily trigger the reactivation of old landslide bodies, posing a threat to the transportation safety. In this study, using methods such as engineering geological investigation, slope deformation monitoring, deep displacement monitoring, and numerical simulation, the interaction between landslides and tunnels was investigated from the perspective of landslide deformation and failure characteristics. The Walibie Tunnel (WLBT) of Shangri-La to Lijiang (XL) expressway was taken as an example.

In situ X-ray reciprocal space mapping was performed during the interval heating and cooling of InGaN/GaN quantum wells (QWs) grown via metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy (MOVPE). Our detailed in situ X-ray analysis enabled us to track changes in the peak intensities and radial and angular broadenings of the reflection. By simulating the radial diffraction profiles recorded during the thermal cycle treatment, we demonstrate the presence of indium concentration distributions (ICDs) in the different QWs of the heterostructure (1.

Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, posing a significant threat to human health. Although immunotherapy has shown promise in cancer treatment, its efficacy is often compromised by tumor immune evasion, which hinders treatment outcomes. Therefore, combining immunotherapy with other therapeutic approaches to enhance its effectiveness has become an increasingly accepted strategy in clinical practice.

Food-hoarding granivores act as both predators and dispersers of plant seeds, resulting in facultative species interactions along a mutualism-antagonism continuum. The position along this continuum is determined by the positive and negative interactions that vary with the ratio between seed availability and animal abundance, particularly for mast-seeding species with interannual variation and spatial synchrony of seed production. Empirical data on the entire fate of seeds up to germination and the influence of rodents on seed survival is rare, resulting in a lack of consensus on their position along the mutualism-antagonism continuum.

The bioaugmentation performance is severely reduced in the treatment of high-saline pesticide wastewater because the growth and degradation activity of pesticide degraders are significantly inhibited by high salt concentrations. In this study, a heterologous biodegradation pathway comprising the seven genes mpd/pnpABCDEF responsible for the bioconversion of p-nitrophenol (PNP)-substituted organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) into β-oxoadipate and the genes encoding Vitreoscilla hemoglobin (VHb) and green fluorescent protein (GFP) were integrated into the genome of a salt-tolerant chassis Halomonas cupida J9, to generate a genetically engineered halotolerant degrader J9U-MP. RT-PCR assays demonstrated that the nine exogenous genes are successfully transcribed to mRNA in J9U-MP.
