Child sexual abuse (CSA) has been previously linked with a risk for adult sexual assault (ASA) and posttraumatic stress symptoms (PTSS). Yet, the relations between CSA, ASA, and other psychological outcomes that may contribute to increased risk for ASA are less clear. This study aims to: 1) examine the links between CSA and ASA and potential risk factors (i.e., PTSS, emotion dysregulation, anger), 2) determine whether there are indirect effects between CSA and ASA through each factor, and 3) investigate whether there are indirect effects between CSA and ASA through the posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptom clusters. The sample included 567 undergraduates ( = 20.84,  = 4.10; 81.1% women; 56.6% white) from two universities. Both CSA and ASA were related to PTSS, emotion dysregulation, and anger. There were indirect effects of CSA on ASA through PTSS and anger ( = .04, = .01, respectively). CSA was associated with each of the PTSD symptom clusters, but only marked alterations in arousal and reactivity were linked with ASA ( = .01). The clusters had no indirect effects on the relation between CSA and ASA. These findings revealed several factors that may be linked with increased risk for sexual victimization.

Background: Posterior medial meniscus root (PMMR) tears (PMMRTs) can be repaired using various techniques to promote healing. However, the biomechanical properties of suture-relay all-suture anchor (ASA) versus conventional suture anchor (CSA) and loop-locking transtibial pullout (TTP) have not been well established.

Purpose: To compare the biomechanical properties of PMMR repairs using suture-relay ASA, CSA, and loop-locking TTP.

Background: Traditionally, diabetics have been considered patients with a high risk of aspiration due to having delayed gastric emptying; However, the evidence concerning residual gastric volume (GV) in fasting diabetic patients is inconsistent. This study aimed to compare the fasting GV of diabetic patients with or without dysautonomia with control patients scheduled for elective surgery using gastric ultrasound.

Methods: This bicentric prospective single-blinded case-control study was conducted at 2 university hospitals in Spain.

Article Synopsis
  • Sexual trauma (ST) is a prevalent issue in the U.S., manifesting as childhood sexual abuse (CSA) and adult sexual assault (ASA), both of which can lead to severe mental health disorders.
  • The psychological and neural effects of CSA and ASA may differ, but current research has largely overlooked these distinctions, as well as the compounding effects of experiencing both types of trauma.
  • This review summarizes findings from psychology and neuroscience, points out gaps in existing research, and suggests future studies to better understand the complex impact of ST throughout a person's life.

Objective: To evaluate the effect of transnasal humidified rapid insufflation ventilatory exchange (THRIVE) on regional cerebral oxygen saturation (rScO) during induction of general anesthesia in patients undergoing traumatic brain injury (TBI) emergency surgery.

Methods: A prospective randomized controlled trial was conducted. The TBI emergency general anesthesia patients who underwent intracranial hematoma removal surgery at the Northern Jiangsu People's Hospital from January to July in 2023 were enrolled.

Background: We investigated factors affecting the low- and high-risk groups for aspiration by measuring gastric volume with ultrasound in diabetic patients who fasted for elective surgery.

Methods: The study was conducted as an observational study. Sixty-five patients scheduled for elective surgery, aged 18-86 years, with American Society of Anesthesiologists (ASA) scores II-III, and who have diabetes were included after local ethics committee approval.
