Norlignans are a rare class of natural products isolated from a diverse range of plant species, many of which have interesting biological activities including antibacterial, antioxidant, phytotoxic, platelet aggregation inhibitory effects, and more. Isolated from (Amomi Fructus), amovillosumins A () and C () are norlignans which were of interest to synthesize, due to their interesting bioactivities, specifically their ability to increase stimulation of glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) secretion. In this research, key intermediate was used to stereoselectively synthesize (7,8)-amovillosumins A () and C ().

Context: The mesophase pitch prepared by acid catalytic method typically had the advantages of low softening point and high solubility. To fully understand the mechanism of acid-catalyzed reactions and gain a deeper understanding of the microstructure of mesophase pitch, this article studied the mechanism of hydrofluoride/boron trifluoride (HF/BF)-catalyzed anthracene using molecular simulation methods. The results showed that there might be two types of carbocations present in the system: classical and non-classical carbocations, and five reactions might occur, protonation reaction, chain elongation reaction, intramolecular cyclization reaction, deprotonation reaction, and dehydrogenation reaction.

Background: Primary aldosteronism (PA) is a common endocrine cause of secondary hypertension. The aldosterone/renin ratio is an important tool for PA screening, and dynamic testing in serum or urine is used to confirm the diagnosis. While LC-MS/MS is considered the gold standard for testing, there is significant interlaboratory variability between the extraction procedures, which can impact diagnostic interpretation.

The Origin of Catalysis and Regioselectivity of Lewis Acid-Catalyzed Diels-Alder Reactions with Tropone.

We have studied the uncatalyzed and Lewis acid (LA)-catalyzed cycloaddition reaction between tropone and 1,1-dimethoxyethene using dispersion-corrected relativistic density functional theory (DFT). The LA catalysts BF , B(C H ) , and B(C F ) efficiently accelerate both the competing [4+2] and [8+2] cycloaddition reactions by lowering the activation barrier up to 12 kcal mol compared to the uncatalyzed reaction. Our study reveals that the LA catalyst promotes both cycloaddition reaction pathways by LUMO-lowering catalysis and demonstrates that Pauli-lowering catalysis is not always the operative catalytic mechanism in cycloaddition reactions.
